Here is a recently completed Quad Mk II with a 4.5" Howitzer and #26 Limber. Although the Quad is listed as a Mk I/II by Milicast, it has the smaller wheels and added windows of a Mk III. The wheels were swapped for suitably altered Guy Ant wheels also from Milicast, the windows were filled in (unfortunately I realized the window problem after initial painting) and a gun platform rack was scratch built. Additional details were also added including wipers and mirrors from Dan Taylor Models, and the transfers came from the spares box (Aleran and Starmers Armour). Figures (including the driver) are from Bull Models.

The Matador Models 4.5" was detailed up and the larger solid rubber kit wheels were replaced with the later pneumatic resin ones. The #26 Limber was also detailed and the profile of the storage bins in front was corrected.

It is marked as the 72nd Field Regt - 50th Mot Inf Div as at Arras, France May 1940.

Hello Simon,

First let me apologize for not responding sooner. I plain didn't see your nice comments and questions until now. Yes, the tires were modified using .010x.020 plastic strip and I have done enough, that I can do one tire in roughly 40 mins. It is worth the effort, I think. As far as plans for the trailer, I did have them from an old Airfix Magazine (1979) which had the older tractor and trailer. I believe they are John Church plans and are still available. When the BEF went to France, they initially had only this type of trailer until later in the war when the standard 20 ton rear loading one came into production.

The chassis and cab are a modified Airfix QLT with the body scratch-built. The 6 Pdr A/T Gun is from Milicast, the transfers are from Aleran and P/E from Dan Taylor Models (mirrors and wipers) and Hauler (Sand channels). Tarps are tissue, helmet and rifles from Bull Models.

Hi Folks.

Here is my completed Guy Quad Ant with 18 Pdr (MP Conversion) and #29 Limber. It was inspired by a photo of an abandoned one in Cassel France in May of 1940 and is identified as belonging to the 140th (5th London) RA (TA) Field Regt - 1 Corps.

It is being checked out by two Wehrmacht folks as potential "beute" booty for German use.

It is a drastically converted Airfix Morris Quad with Matador Models 18 Pdr and Limber. The figures are Preiser.

Thanks for your nice comment. The Karrier was mastered by a couple of wargamers for their own purposes but are actually very good models and they made them available to other folks on the site. I think DaveC made the actual master for the vehicle. Here is the thread where Ian explains the details.

Here is my little vignette comprising Ian Armstrong's Karrier KT4 Spider with Milicast 25 Pounder and Limber and the AB Figures crew. The crew comes as an eight pack but as crew were normally only 6, only 6 were finished.

It represents a gun of the 25th Field Regt - 4th Indian Division in North Africa during Operation Crusader in 1941.

Vehicle markings were from Peter Marshall, Aleran and the spares box and the inspiration came from friends on the Society of Gentlemen Wargamers site and specifically a photo of this particular "Spider" kindly provided by Mike Starmer.

Thanks chaps for the nice comments. I didn't really keep track of my time on this but it took a few weeks. I spent a lot of time on the tractor, adding a scratch-built vertical winch (which is barely visible), a modified old style hook-up and the old detachable bogie trailer. I paint the basecoat with an airbrush but hand brush the disruptive pattern - apply a gloss coat of varnish - add pin washes of almost black to accentuate the details - add transfers - apply a matt coat of varnish, dry-brush in a lighter shade of the base colour to bring out the detail. As a final step, I use Tamiya pastels to add dust, rust sparingly.

These steps are done with drying time in between.

There is also a photo of this combination in North Africa with the same older style 20 ton trailer. It may have had a 30 ton trailer later.

Here is my 1/76 Scammell Pioneer T/T "Snow White" as inspired by a photo of it passing through Neubourg, France during the BEF retreat in June 1940. It is thought to be a recovery vehicle of the 1st Armoured Division. As the tank didn't show any markings, I used "artistic" license and marked it up as a 3 Btn RTR Cruiser as depicted on the Armoured Acorn site.

The tractor is a modified Airfix, the trailer is scratch-built and the tank is Milicast. Decals and markings are from Dan Taylor Models, Starmer's Armour and the spares box.

Thank you all for the really nice comments. It was a fun build but the antenna did take a couple of days.

I do tend to make my bases fairly simple with just some typical terrain so it doesn't detract from the vehicle. but lately, I have been adding a figure or two just to bring it to life.

As far as plexiglass, it is fairly small as it's only 1/76 scale and the base is only 4.25 " long. All my models are kept in a display case so dust is not really an issue. When they do get dusted, my wife's soft makeup brushes take a bit of a beating.

Here is my recently completed Guy FBAX Wireless. It features a scratch-built cab on a modified Airfix K6 chassis with a detailed Matador Models #3 Wireless body.

The vehicle is finished as a wireless vehicle of GHQ 1 HQ Signals in the Dunkirk area in 1940.

Inspiration came from a photo of this vehicle derelict on the beach at Dunkirk. The model portrays it in better days and is accompanied by a Dan Taylor "At Ease" figure. Transfers are from Peter Marshall at Aleran.

Thanks, Timbo.....no mistake, it is Caunter. I use Mike Starmer's book, "The Caunter Scheme". It shows the patterns for the various vehicles, has colour chips for matching and suggested colour mixes for Humbrol Enamels. The WD colour numbers are #64 Portland Stone (Base Colour)/#34 Slate/#28 Silver Grey.

Thanks Gents, for the nice comments. The interior was "lots of fun". It is basically complete with lockers, drawers, goose-neck lamps (3), radio with headset, table with 3 swivel chairs (should be 4 but is too crowded) and the front is fairly detailed as well, with drivers and passenger seats, etc. all of which of course, can't really be seen.....madness, I guess! I was fortunate enough to find some photos showing forward and rearward with all the detail so I just had to do it.

On the painting table right now is a scratch-built Guy FBAX Wireless of BEF period. I'll post some photos when complete.

Here are some photos of a recently completed vignette in 1/76 scale portraying a Dorchester and Morris 8cwt PU of the 2nd Armoured Division in Libya, 1941.

The Dorchester is scratch-built on the Airfix Matador chassis with wheels from Milicast. The Morris is MMS and modified somewhat to lengthen the cab area, add cab and storage bin details and build the canopy frame.

The two standing figures are from the Revell/Matchbox Monty's Caravan set, the seated officer is a Bull Models figure and the Morris driver is a Milicast figure. Table, chair, mug and satchel are all scratch-built. Transfers were made by Peter Marshall at Aleran.

Thanks, Tony.....actually the model is well detailed enough but I did add tissue and straps to the tarped areas, tarps and a hand-brake to the limber and winch fairlead rollers and fairlead to the front of the tractor. I do use an Optivisor (magnifier) as my eyes aren't what they used to be.
