  1. Robins bang on about Canadian ones, but also when they were first sold thru crown assets, the middle east situation went nasty. My friend had bought 2 runners, minus turret. After he paid and took possession, the government wanted them back to use in middle east. Needless to say he had them upto a few years ago.

the exact details are not on hand but the story in Canada kind of went like this.

Canada is getting out of the tank bussines, get rid of the Leopards.

Remove the turrets and cuts a slab out of in front of the driver and sell them running through Crown Assets disposal.

First 14 go up for disposal and the end user agreement and blessing from Germans were obtained.

They sold for around $17,000 if memory serves me right.

Suddenly the need for tanks in Afghanistan was realised and on a dime the policy changed and all were put into a refurb / upgrade program. Our turrets even ended going down to Australia but that is another story.

End result is that are about 14 of them that came out running and one is occasionaly seen near Toronto owned by a tow truck operator.

Just a side bar to a sad story

  2. Thats pretty interesting, here is a utube picture vid of german captured 'Pz.Kpfw. Mk.IV 744

The Germans obtained a number of A13s in France after Dunkirk. These were remanufactured (including the fitting of German tracks). These were designated 'Pz.Kpfw. Mk.IV 744(e)', and were allocated to the 18.Pz.Div, Operation Barbarossa, June 1941. About 15 were pressed into service, so it could be Russia.

  3. Yes tracks in north america have dried up. They use to be 1250 usd each about 3 years ago but supply is gone. I have seen them at 5g each now. Europe may be different. There is an Israeli who has the molds to make them. He wants around 3500 each i believe and needs a min order. The mold is forsale too he says, 100g usd. There are a few individuals looking into having them made from scratch, long and slow process. Tracks are the hardest to find at this point, who knows into the future

  4. First where are you? Ebay usa usually has a few project to running halftracks ( i assume your talking US not german)

Resto is always expensive, and the bigger the part the more to ship. Im almost done mine, 3 years later and probably a new corvette could be sitting in my driveway instead of the halftrack, but hey what will a vette do for me when the zombie Apocalypse comes

also goto halftrackinfo.com its is a site specific for halftracks. I recommend buy as complete as possible as alot of stuff is still avail in nos and reproduction, but it will nickle and dime you to death (been there)

.I hope to get my Ferret in someday...I am trying to find any of the Canadian Soldiers that might have been in it (54-82586 UNEF 1216) but so far in 16 months haven't found them..

I have sent emails to all the Canadian Units but no answer....I would really like to display the Ferret with pictures of the crew....We have a great hobby preserving history....

    Stay safe.....
