No I can't select second gear stationary or moving or when the engine is stopped. You can't force it into gear and you cannot feel the dog clutch engaging but third gear is fine, which I assume use the same fork and detent shaft
Thanks for your help

My Explorer has a Leyland 680 engine fitted but I need a temperature sender for the Meadows as the Explorer has the original waterproof dash fitted. The reason why I mentioned the dash is because unlike most civilian temperature gauges, when disconnected it goes to full scale not 0. I am not sure if this would be the same as the non waterproof dash.

Has any one had a problem with their Stalwart in selecting second gear? Over the past year it has been getting worst but now I cannot select it at all. I have checked the gear lever adjustment and that is fine. You can feel the sychros picking up but it will not engage. Also has any one got a workshop manual for the gear box?

At the weekend I was checking the rear brake shoes and found the rear NS outer hub nut was loose. Can any one tell us the torque that the outer Hub nut should be tightened to and also is there a method of locking this nut or should the jacking bolts be backed off, tight to the nut and lock wired?
Thanks

Does any one know where to find a temperature sender for the Explorer? It is missing. The Explorer has the Smith water-proof dash fitted as opposed to the standard. I think is may be similar to the Stalwart. Thanks for your help.

Hello all
I have just joined the forum. I have been collecting military vehicles for the past 15 years. At the moment I currently own an Alvis Stalwart Mark 2 1966, Scammell Explorer 1951, FV3621 20 ton plant trailer,LandRover lightweight Series 3 and Matchless 1941 G3L. I am just finishing off restoring the Scammell and then work starts on the trailer. All the others are on the road and are used regularly.

I have a set of overall tracks which came from an explorer ,they are similar to the ones shown in your picture apart from the cross bars which are flat bars with a double twist on them , they came from a timber /earthmoving contractor who operated near Kettering northants.I think the explorer he operated still exists it was sold to Badger Bros recovery at Lubenham nr market harborough reg no YNV 185 J .
The pioneer in niels v last picture shows a late build sv/2s with wheel lifting hubs and shows the spare wheel carrier under the jib
I own the Scammell explorer YNV 185J I bought it about 5 year ago from a farm in Reading. I have now nearlly finished restoring it. Does any one know any more history about it.
