  1. My chassis No is 4260 and it was delivered on 25-6-43 under contract TM 5019 issued on 28-7-1941. According to Pat Ware's book Pioneer which lists contract numbers, chassis No 4977 was built under contract S3164 issued 21 months later. given a rough production of 10 a week 4977 would have been built around October 1944. As for 1944 on the crane they all seem to have this on. Could this be a model number?

    My name is Brian,Im from Wicklow in ireland but living in kildare.Ive always been a fan of military vehicles.Ive recently come across a Scammell Pioneer.Ive been aware of them before now.Seeing this one in the flesh or rather jumle of tin rot and woodworm has sparked my interest in a fine beast of a machine.Hopfuly after finding this forum I can learn some more about it and the vast aray of other fine vehicles to.

     

    I look forward to the endless supply of information on this site and hopfully i can add some too

  3. Be sure to photograph them anyhow , sometimes when you use photoshop or other digital software programs its possable to change the contrast or other values and read what the eye can not .

     

    Thanks for the tip, tried it with a couple of photos I took earlier and it works but still not great,

    I will try Get some better ones tomorrow.

    Ive found the chassis number of the pioneer its 4977, reg number H10 729(Irish).does anyone know where i can find information on the year,doing a bit of research i reckon its an sv/2s and with the crane plate saying 1944 its between october 1939 and febuary 1945the crane s/n is b37426.There are unit markings under the paint layers but are not good enough to make out,

    Hello

    Im very happy to have found this thread.Ive recently came across a scammell pioneer and would like to know if it is worth doing anything with and how i can find information on this perticular one.Where would i find the chassis number atc,

    the story is as follows, Ive yet to see the paper work which the previous owner has but he reckons it is 1930, the crane is a Herbert morris 1944 and the engine is gardner 1958.

    Ive done a bit of research on it,but as yet have to get a propper look round the actual truck

     

    Also on another note the same person who has this gave me a photo taken in Doolen,France 1945 of a Mr Ted Wyckes of Derby,whom he Knows,infront of his scammell Gun Tractor Reg H4500290 I hope this is of some Value to someone on here.

     

    Also since looking in to this vehicle Ive taken a shine to them,Would anyody know if there are any examples in ireland?
