Hello
Has the MVT organised any runs , camping trips to this years D Day events in Normandy ?
I dont have a period WW2 vehicle but being a MVT member and modernish military vehicle owner i would still like to visit the D Day beaches with my family and all our kit ?
everywhere i have looked in France to stay seems to be either civi type holiday parks or hotels , with crazy holiday season prices , we are quite happy with just a field for a week but want to be somewhere near the beaches etc.
Anyone know if theres a option for club members or place to pitch military canvas for a sensibly priced stay ?
cheers all

Hi Andy
Yes pulse tech extreme
Yes I had it running continuous overnight , it wasn't laboured as I have 4 hawker batterys and the charge was goverened between the batterys with Pulsetechs QUADLINK set up that distributes charge at 10 minute intervals .
Im pretty sure that the units are not suitable as described , made in china quality never inspires confidence with me .
The chap at United scientific has asked me to return both units , but I know they have failed due to overheating as I have bought a vented solid state charger that's properly vented and its been working 24 hrs for 3 days with no problems .
Im hoping to get a full refund as im not impressed with the pulse tech

Hi
I bought one of these chargers and the quadlink to regulate between 4 hawker batterys , followed all the instructions and set the charger up , it worked for 2 days and broke ? overheated I guess ? A new one was sent out on warranty and this lasted 3 days and has Broke ?
I don't think the chargers are fit for purpose ?
I notice they are manufactured in China although coming from the states .
I am now using a draper intelligent charger , that's fully vented through the quadlink , so far so good.

Hi
The large brass connector at the rear is now emitting a red light , looks like a lazer ? on the female pin socket . so would light carry information , is this a fibre optic connection ??

[Amazzing pics , looks like a newer set up than my old clockwork jobby .
im having some operating glitches with mine now , something seems to go wrong everytime i try and start PC , waiting for a windows 98 disc to arrive so i can reboot . hopefully they settle down ??
Iain your spot on again , the printers i have aquired do have a seperate domestic type connection inside the case .

The 322 HF linear has a wider separation between the mounting bars than the other vehicular radio kit, I think.

Iain
Are we talking about the 322 amp ? ive seen archive pictures of these these and most are rigid mounted to a table with the 250 watt TURF mounted on top ? no rubber isolating feet .
im wondering if the table is for the heavy (32Kg) ruggerised monitor as used in the CRVT ??

the above pic shows the ribbon attached to the interface , by just removing the ribbon from the interface the pin connector will then fit straight on to a normal HDD .......seems too easy ehh ?

Iain
I have those pics for you , also some showing the connections at rear of the LXI laptop to see if you can figure them out ?
I also acquired a pair of SSP teleprinters I think which I hope to set up with the LXI if possible ? I have included some pics of the connectors on these also .
im guessing XMOD will be able to help me out with the leads , im guessing the printer could run from mains electric or vehicle electrics ?
would this type of printer have been used in a Bates truck like mine ? if so would it also receive data via radio ?
cheers

Well, that is good news with the HDD!
As for music from win98, do you have a program like CDPlayer? It should be part of win98, later replaced by Windows Media Player, if I remember rightly. Fairly basic thing, never used it much.

Cheers Trevor
yes the windows 98 has a music player , I was wondering if it would push to video though , but looks like it wont .

I have had my LXI returned from the comp shop , they managed ok to fit a small HDD and windows 98 operating system .
I was disappointed to see the CD rom drive wasn't opening so I thought id remove the thousand tiny screws and whip it apart to see what they done ?
amazingly it looks like the ribbon that went to the original HDD clipped onto the back of a circuit board with a differing pin interface , all they had to do was pull the ribbon and its block connector off the back of the original interface and connect it directly to the new HDD , no mods at all ??
I also noted that the same ribbon extended onwards to the cd rom drive , this was unconnected ?? so I reconnected it .
It caused a few boot up problems and I rebooted with your Floppy disc (cheers) and it boots up great , only thing is the computer is not playing the CD,s I think it needs some media software or something to recognise Drive D: or something ??
any ideas ?? do you think it should be able to play Music and video CD,s or is it a bit much ??
Also repair shop said ignore the CMOS error , apparently the motherboard has a battery somewhere for the BIOS ? (same as CMOS ??) but they couldn't find it as its nothing like a ordinary PC , he said it could look something like a resistor but wasn't sure , it still boots up ok but has this CMOS error , I have the cover off still if you fancy a PIC , theres not much to see as its quite a mess .
any luck with the BATES software as yet ?
cheers

Whithams have a nice BMETS rb44 for sale on auction if your quick , the sister truck to the BATES .
Iain ive sent you a PM , ive got a bit stuck again .
My truck was used in KOSOVO and on a exercise TARTAN BLIZZARD in 2005 , one of the biggest artillery live firing exercises in the UK ever apparently , theres snippets of info on the royal artillery website

wow
This is very interesting stuff , I expect the guy at the PC shop will understand it better than me , I will pass the information on to him as he is part way through custom building a caddy Interface .
Kind regards

If I click on the image it comes up about an inch square on my screen I assume the connector is at the end we cant see and the handle on the front would be for extracting it from the slot. The only new info on the ISO group site was the part number "A2N20452723" which however only finds the ISO group listing when tried in Google
Before parting with £300 it may be worth trying the floppy boot method - if you want me to post you something PM me the address I should send it to. If you have a screenshot of the original BATES software I can probably try to make it look like that.
Regards
Iain
Hi Iain
yes sorry about size of pic , that's the one I was sent .
The guy said basically its encased in the white plastic case , and the knob bit on front is for slotting it in and out .
I have given the laptop to my local PC shop , he says its shouldn't be too difficult to get a HDD for it but its the interface that will need a bit of work . so fingers crossed, he has tons of old pc parts to play with so hopefully something can me fabricated to work.
I have PM you my address for the boot disk you mentioned , I have no idea what a BATES screen shot would look like ? in my head I imagine it like some old 80,s Atari asteroids game ? but cant imagine it be quite that cool . lol
Really appreciate your assistance , one thing the guy mentioned and I don't know how hes got them is that the pair of HDD hes has couldn't be wiped ? so still contain I guess some interesting software , or maybe just solitaire ???
cheers

RB44 generator
in Lubrication, Batteries & Electrics
Posted
Hello
I have a Reynolds Broughton 44 . Bates equipped truck.
I was wondering if the engine driven generator is 24 volt ? I'm guessing by the 4 x Hawker 110ah 12 v battery's with 2 banks wired in parallel that it is a 24 v system with the 4 battery's producing 440 ah ?
Is there any kind of regulator to prevent overcharging , boiling up the battery's ? Also is there any way of converting it down to 12 volts so I can run the battery's in series 12 volts so battery's are charged when driving and without changing all the wiring It can easily when parked up run a fridge, lights and recieve top up charge from my 200 watt 12volt solar panels.
Anyone have any thoughts or knowledge most appreciated , basically I was hoping to keep the engine generator to charge up battery's for leisure camper van type use and not military radios .
Cheers guys
