  1. Now before anyone says anything, I am just as human as anyone else and have my fair share of screw ups.

Wonder what the intercom back and forth was like on this one?

Naw I have a better one This Saladin has its full complement of ammunition inside, Aden 1964/5. It would have made a big bang if it had fallen into the Wadi and the ammo exploded.

Nice vehicle is it yours? Trust you are in contact with Jim (Fugly) about his restoration. I have 07 BB 10 in my care which at one time was XRH. I found an in service pic of it on one of the websites (but i dont think it was yours?)..

  4. Afternoon Gents,

Just been having a discussion re C42 radios with the pattern maker (David Jane) who's working on the Ferret patterns for our 1/24th scale kit. We`ve hit a question that only the blokes in the know can answer.....:D:D

Would any kind sole here have a photograph or two in the collective album of the correct C42 set up in a Ferret Mk2/3 please ?

I've gathered some C42 pics from t'interweb but the one & only 'installed' picture we have is in the Pat Ware book page 69 (bottom left) which shows another table & other unclear kit on top of the sets. Could anyone clarify what should/should`nt be there please ?

    Thanks fellas.

    Howard.

The Regiment (10th Royal Hussars) had C42 & B47 in Aqaba 1956/7 and when we went to Aden 1964/5 we had C13 & B47 I actually spoke to another troop in the same Sqn. Over a 1000 miles away on 16 feet of rod loud and clear I was impressed with the C13. Being a ham I would love to get my hands on one now but they have become as elusive as the pimpernel, I know a person who was going to install a 19 Set in the 1/24 Ferret he is building until I enlightened him, we had a staff sergeant and a couple fitters replacing them when we arrived. Above one of our Ferrets (Aqaba).

  5. Thanks for the comments gents, it was a project I really enjoyed as I like all the FV600 series and they are sadly neglected by the kit manufacturers. (Resin is beyond my modelling budget.)

    Regards Dave

Dave these are the the tac signs we had on our vehicles in Aden in 64/65 see my website re Aden http://www.xrhgb.com Enjoy pm me for more info.

  6. Evening all.....

I'm now in the last couple of days (at last) of prepping the 1/24th model Saladin kit parts & etch bits ready to go off for production & have come across a small problem that only the collective brain of HMVF can assist with.

The jobby in question is the commanders .30 cal MG mounting. I've got pics of the mounting 'point' on top of the episcope guard & pics of the hinged 'gun stowed' bracket that hangs down the side of the turret......but just realised I've got nowt of the gun mount itself or the ammo tray.:embarrassed:

Would any of you kind gents have the relative photo shot or hand book piccy I need ?

(I'll bet Clive is reaching for the relevant document as we speak. :D)

Any help, as always, most gratefully received.

    Toodle pip.

    Howard

PS, Is it true HMVF stands for Her Majesties Vehicle Fanatics ? :D:D

Here is one in action in Aden 64/65 if you need more pm me and I will have a look you might find more on my website

  7. Hello pete-xrh.

I am from Creswell on the Notts/Derbys/s.Yorks border.

Sorry to disappoint but i was an A Mech until i changed to Tech Storeman.

I would like to see the Saladin, a great vehicle.

I would love to see a good model in plastic of this range of vehicles

I will have a look at your website :thanx:

If you know of any Saladin gun fitters that live near by or further a field let us know as we would like build a FMR and fit a bracket onto the 76 to fire a .22 rifle.

    use this link http://www.vmarsmanuals.co.uk/archive/files_index.htm

and you will get straight in no membership needed for 19 Set kit.

If you go to the royal signals mob 19 Set group you will be expected to join and then when you want to download some documents you will be expected to : Sit up and beg, Roll over and play dead, offer your paw and fetch the stick. If you don’t do it right and you get it wrong 3 times you are locked out, Customer service at its best !! Just because ONE person tried it on everybody is being punished as if they own the Copyright.

Personally I think the Gnomes have been sitting on a toad stools around the camp fire eating magic mushrooms and consequently are living in an enchanted world of their own oblivious to the real world, reminds me of my halcyon days in the sixties ………

  10. Hi my name is Peter and I am an alcoholic, (just kidding I think ……)

    Military

I am from a military family so I am an Army brat I tried the civilian thing for a bit, it was too boring. I joined the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry TA in Salisbury in 1963 whilst working as a trainee auto electrician the job did not pay much and the money from the TA was helpful. I Joined the 10th Royal Hussars 64 it was an armoured car regiment Ferrets, Saladins, Saracens and Stalwarts and the usual B vehicles I saw active service in Aden 64/65. When the regiment amalgamated with the 11th Hussars in 1969 I left and went to Army Air Corp for a couple of years then about 4 years with the Para’s.

    Civilian

Left the army went into Computers started as an operator then went into programming ended up a Manager.

I am the webmaster for the 10th Hussars “Shiners Club” which I designed an programmed. For those of you restoring vehicles there are lots of pictures of armoured cars etc. which you may use as long as you mention my website: www.xrhgb.com

If you have any questions about military vehicles feel free to ask I will try and answer them.

    Hi Luis,

The first set I trained on was a 19 Set in 1963 and in 1974 I took part in the annual Commemorative drop on Arnhem in 1974. Have you got an email address for Pete Gain?

  12. Any one know anything about he 19 sets?

I have two, both say W S 19 Mk3, but both are slightly different, one looks older with more switches & brass '19 set' plate, while the other is a lighter grey with fewer dials/swithes and a printed '19 set' .

    Will take some photos soon.

    Jules

    Hello Adam

The correct web etiquette is to ask for permission to use my photographs (xrhp33.jpg) on another website. It is after all only good manners to ask.
