  1. MILITARY AND FLYING MACHINES SHOW -An Announcement...

We can now officially announce that The Military and Flying Machines show will no longer be supported by the Military Vehicle Trust, so an new and independent organisation has been set up by the members of the Essex branch of the MVT to carrry on with the show. The new organisation is called the Essex Historic Military Vehicle Association, and has been registered as a charity. We are grateful to the staff and owner of the Damyns Hall Aerodrome for the support we have received, and the plan is to keep on putting on Essex and London’s Premier Military Show.

We are all very positive about the new set-up and we are all looking forward to a new chapter and the chance to continue to make it a great weekend for everybody!

Our new website is up and running http://www.militaryandflyingmachines.com and if you have any questions, dont hesitate to ask!

  2. Military and Flying Machines, 2nd and 3rd of August 2104.

We’re coming back! After what was a pretty hard year last year experimenting with the 3 day show we have decided that running it over 3 days was making the show a bit too big and as a result it was losing some of its friendly appeal, so we are going back to basics with a good old fashioned 2 day show.

We’ll have all the normal stuff, hundreds of Military Vehicles from all eras and countries, flying displays, living history, a beer tent you’ll tell your grandchildren about, free entertainment and a warm happy feeling to everyone that comes along.

If you would like to book in, you can do it in two ways. Either go here http://www.militaryandflyingmachines.org.uk/'>http://www.militaryandflyingmachines.org.uk/'>http://www.militaryandflyingmachines.org.uk/ and do it online, or email me Richard.brew@hampden.co.uk

I hope to see you there, all the best,

    Richard

  3. Sorry to come in late (Thanks for pointing me here Lee!) but there was a big article on the Essex MVT Show in the issue before the show. There isn't a lot of point in having an article saying how good it was, the emphasis has to be on saying how good it's going to be!

Speaking for myself, I am completely knackered by the end of the show, and after 8 days of living in a tent, with mountains of stress and no sleep writing an article is a long, long way down my list of things to do. If you went, and you liked it, write an article and send in your pictures :)

  4. Hi everyone,

Just to let you know that the Worlds only surviving WW1 airfield (which is slowly being restored to its former glory) will be holding a Vintage Flying in day on the 11th of September. Military vehicles of any era are very welcome to come along.

There will be several types of Aircraft scheduled to attend, so far including four members of the Great War Display Team, A Fokker Triplane and a an early reconnaissance BE2 from Sywell, a Fokker Eindecker and a number of vintage and interesting civilian aircraft. Although this is not a conventional air display there will be flying demonstrations on the day as well as the arrival and departure of the other aircraft. Also attending this event are members of the Dawn Patrol, a large scale Great War flying model club who will fly their impressive models for the audience.

There will be food available and the Prince of Wales at Stow Maries is running a bar on the site on the day.

There will also be Militaria stalls and free guided tours of this unique airfield, many parts of which have remained completely untouched since the RAF left it in the 1920’s. If you are interested in coming along, there is no booking in form but drop me a line here or on my email address Richard.brew@hampden.co.uk just so as I can keep an eye on numbers..

The airfield guys like you to be on site by 9.30am or so, but you won’t get turned away if you are a bit later. They also do not mind if you want to camp over on the Saturday night. Entrance is via Hackmans Lane only and we cannot allow pets on site on the day due to health and safety issues with the exception of guide dogs.

This is a nice and relaxed show, and I look forward to seeing you there,

    All the best,

    Richard

  5. How many from here going??. I would have taken a vehicle but i haven't booked in,and don't want to be turned away at the gate, so i will be going by car. It was a very good show last year when i took the Ferret. Looking forward to it.

Just so as you know for next year, we never turn anyone away at the gate, you can turn up and book in

  6. They have wrecked it. the new directors have placed 75% of the exhibits into storage, and its now like a huge information point, with hardly any artefacts, and lots of boards to read. The dug up flea is on a concrete stairwell, it looks like someone will come and finish carrying it up the stairs soon, and the emphasis seems not to be on the Arnhem/Oosterbeek battle, but on how stupid war is. If you go to Arnhem, dont bother to go in. Give the 8 euros to a decent charity.

  7.

Also heard that the Southend vulcan is in a condition that is airworthy but the onlything holding them off flying is the good old CAA. Can anyone confirm this? :)

I can sort of deny it :) My neighbour works at Southend Airport as an avionics engineer. He reckons that the salt air has 'knackered it', and it is 'only good for burning defective fuel confiscated from 3rd world cargo airlines'.

  8. I got home at 12 last night... our trucks were pulled by customs coming through Ramsgate for being radioactive (honest, it's the truth..) and all the guns checked which delayed us a bit, anyone else have problems?

It's a good show, and the last day is a lot of fun, but to anyone thinking of going be warned, you need to be fully self sufficient or in a hotel, the campsite is just rough ground and there are only 2 portaloo's and no showers, and by the end of sunday the woods are getting a bit stinky :shake:

The vehicle run is better than Bethune, but the camping lets it right down.
