Great pictures good to see GTB bomb service with a M5 bomb trailer . We where told that the bomb service never towed the m5 .But they had the connections for the electric brakes .So we now know they where used. T CORBIN

You could never say never when the RNZAF were involved. If it needed to be done they just figured out how, and did it. They begged, stole or borrowed (mostly stole) whatever they could, jeeps, trucks even whole aeroplanes were somehow appropriated from dumps and resurected.

Heres a couple from the RNZAF Museum archive. Notice the platform welded on top of the crane. Our project has the remnants of this local modification. As you can see from the other pics, no two were the same. Unfortunately these give no indication of the colours.

We here at the Air Force Museum of New Zealand, have a GTBS Bomb Service Truck as a restoration project.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force operated a few in the Pacific islands, Guadalcanal, Solomans etc.

We would like to know what colour it should be? Ocean Grey or Olive Drab? It is likely that the RNZAF vehicles were 'hand me downs' from the US Marine's.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I like the comments, apparently it would be impossible to blow over onto one wheel while it was on the ground, so the suggestion from the Jersey flying club was it was flying/landing :shocked:

 

I'd seriously consider another form of transport into Jersey if that is the standard of flying activity!

The Herc would have no trouble blowing it over on the ground, With enough power to drag 40 odd tonnes of Herc into the air, the light aircraft would easily tip up in the wash

How big vehicles can fit into Hercules? I need dimensions of entrance and cargo bay, can you help?

The C-130H cargo deck is aproximately 40' long, 10' wide and 9' high.

as a rule it can carry anything that fits within these measurements.

I can dig up a more accurate measurement if you wish.

Love the old Huey, We here in New Zealand are still flying 15 of the old girls with No 3 Squadron Based out of Ohakea. Due to be phased out and replaced in the next year by the NH-90. A bit like going from a Moris 1000 to a Ferari.

Hi folks, My name is Nathan Bosher, I currently work at the Royal New Zealand Air Force Museum at Wigram in Christchurch. I am the resident Safety & Surface Tech, meaning I am responsible for all our aircraft upholstory, flying clothing, life rafts, parachutes etc (thats the Safety part of the job title) and all of the aircraft /vehicle painting requirements (or 'Surface Finishing' in air force terms)

I spent 22.5 years in the RNZAF and then became a civilian defence employee when my time was up and returned to my old job.

A mate of mine collects military vehicles (and volunteers at the museum) and we have just finished building a canopy for a Lloyd Carrier (Starter & Charger version), over 150hrs of work.

Hobbies include Aviation art, land yachting, and Sled Dog Racing (we have Alaskan Malamutes) My wife, Paula, and I live on a ten acre propperty outside Christchurch and are expecting our first child in late November.
