  1. Please see below a petition to keep the British Forces Post Office from being closed

Armed Forces have been advised that the BFPO facilities in mainland Europe will be shut from September 2010. Personnel, and their families, deployed in Europe currently enjoy the same postal rates as the UK. Withdrawal of this long established tradition will further erode personnel's ability to communicate with their families in the UK and safe receipt of parcels etc through a secure network.

  3. Hi.

Can anyone solve the mystery of this object.

It stands in the grounds of an old large house that was demolished in the 1970’s. All the locals refer to it as the old cannon.

Is it a cannon that’s been converted into a bird bath, sundial or just an old quality garden ornament?

    Thanks

  4. Hi all

This is the first time I’ve posted on the Aviation section of the forum. I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

My sister set up a local historical website-http://www.thornton.btik.com/ last year. It’s a non profit making site set up to record the history of the area.

She has been approached by an elderly local lady who has told her a story about a plane (she recollected it as been American) crashing in the area ( Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire) during WW11.After trawling through old editions of the local papers my sister can’t find any mention of the event.

Where could I find a record of WW11 plane crashes in The N/W of the UK so the event can be verified and included on her website?

    Thanks

    Phil

  5. Fleetwood pier burned down in the fifties, my Dad took me down there and we were collecting money in buckets from underneath the remains, there had been a sort of bowling alley target game which cost half a crown (12.5p) which was a small fortune to me in those days as well as lots of penny and sixpence machines.

It suffered a major fire in September last year and has since been demolished.

  6. Hi all

I’m new to the forum and have little knowledge of HMV’s.I do have a mechanical background that ranges from cars to marine, HGV’s and heavy plant. I found the forum by googling Austin K9, which is the type of vehicle I would like to purchase in the near future. Any suggestions or advice would be most welcome.

After many hours of reading some very interesting threads I think the way forward is to start attending events, meetings, rallies as the majority of the regulars on the forum seem to know each other very well.

Are there any forthcoming events in the North of the UK?

I had trouble getting up this morning after staying up till the early hours reading the WW1 Dennis Truck Find in Pre-WW2 Vehicles. Amazing dedication.
