  1. Hi all,

our reenactors club bought a Hippo from the UK recently. Only a couple of weeks ago it arrived in our place in Czech Republic. It needs some working on but it runs so hopefuly it will be on the road again soon. We have started the restoration already.

On the second page of this thread I found a picture of the MK1 Hippo which seems to be very rare model. Does anybody know of any surviving example? Any more pictures of this type please? What are the differences from the MK2 apart from the open cab, different spare wheel holder and tanks?

    Cheers Dusan

  2. no idea, he was about 26 yrs old on his way home from work listening to loud music, and in his own word was no concentraiting, he said he was doing 'about 70 mph', he phoned me when i was on the ferry to appologise! doesn't help my back or the pains of my passengers tho!

  3. I was also involved in a Crash, but on the way to Normandy. at 10.15 pm on the A3 southbound on the 28th May, a Vw polo driver decided to do a close and personal inspection of our LeyLand Hippo, Thankfully he wasn't killed as he hit us at over 70 mph and we we going 28mph. We did have a flashing beacon. We knew what hit us as his tax disc was embedded in glass in our rear pintle hook.

Its the first time we have ever had any problems and I always use the motorways, as its the quickest way to get any where.

  5. Earlier on in this thread there was some mention of tank transporters(20 & 30 ton) . I remember a few years ago there was an immaculate TRMU30 with trailer on the show scene with a BMP1 bolted to the back , it was at the shows for a couple of years then went up for sale and disapeared, Is it still around or even still in this country? I attach the only photo of it I can find.
