:red: I can understand the traders side all too well, having hauled my own trade stand around various shows,

but I'm British - I've got to have a moan about something - even when things are going well !

A big hand must go to all the guys/galls that turned up and put on a good display.

Although I think splitting up the period traders from the Military display was not a good move

- personally prefering last years layout.

I was a little disappointed with the racing though : maybe it was the cold wind making it feel like October,

or maybe it was more emphasis on single seater cars this year and a tad less sports and saloons

- which didn't have the battles I saw last year.

(I see as single seaters as glorified go-karts and believe real racing cars should have doors).

Still a good day's outing non-the-less - and I didn't get stuck in the mud either.

Sunday only for me, I'm afraid.

It was a Brilliant Event last year, and I have been really looking forward to it,

but after this afternoons thunderstorms and lots of rain, I fear the racing might be called off.

But I'll still be trundling down tomorrow, and if I get stuck in the field parking area

I hope someone is kind enough to haul me out.

When I was a nipper, I dug up the remains of a Mauser machine pistol from our back garden.

Rusted solid, with no grips - I was the bees-knees with the other kids, each wanting to swap

their new Lone Star Chrome Colt pistols for it. Can't remember what finally happened to it.

If you work within Highway/Motorway areas, or Large Engineering Complexes your vehicle must comply

with EEC Directive Chapter 8 (ECE104) and must be fitted with Amber Beacons,

relective chevrons to rear, and perimeter reflective striping as part of Health and Safety.

That's why my work vehicle is marked thus..... keeps the tailgaters off my back, at least !!

I think all vehicle scrapyards are great. I could spend hours just mooching through rusty tin. They're like 'theme parks' for old petrol-heads. (Until you get chased out by the owners!)

I've had a look at a few replica Kubels on the web, and changed my mind about attempting to build my own. Sounds like a great idea at first, but it would have to be 'blooming' good to pass for a real one, - and after all that effort (and cash) I would be continually apologising for it.

If I'm going to have a warwagon, it will have to be the real thing - might have to be a Trekker, or......

My wife and I spent a long day at Duxford last summer, and she said then that a Jeep would be a nice next project. But in reality, it doesn't seem to have worked. I haven't bought anything yet, and she hasn't spoken to me for 3 days, - just for thinking about it !

Yes, I've heard of them. I think I'll take another look.

I believe they are fibreglass based. I have drawn up plans before, based on my early beetle, and found that making panels and rolling in swage lines wouldn't be a big problem. But it is the mudguards and details that would make or break this sort of project. I wouldn't like it to look cobbled together - but I'm up for this sort of thing, Cheers.

At present I own a family car (my wife has her own Astra), I have my '63 Beetle and a motorcycle, and I've just successfully sold my other motorcycle at the weekend - so got a bit more cash and space. I have a big double garage, on a corner plot with plenty of space - but I want a small Military vehicle to play with before I die. I have been married for over 30 years, and running out of excuses. What great excuse could I come up with, so that she can't refuse?

Update on possible Iltis purchase...

Viewed my first Iltis at Penrith on Saturday - got to admit, it didn't get my juices flowing. It wasn't a diesel, but it sounded like one. The MOT/tax was there for another 3 weeks, and would require a new screen and wipers working to pass. The steering was heavy, bodywork required a little welding and there was a couple of stress cracks at the front of the bonnet. Interior was okay, but came with that damp/mould smell. It was the grinding sound coming from the rear drive shafts that finally put me off - it could be the brakes from standing, or bearings, or something more expensive. To cap it all, the £1200 price tag I was told it was going for, almost doubled.

As I am beetle orientated, I might have a look at a 181 Trekker, - or maybe build myself a Kubel replica. It's just about using the right parts and getting the proportions right, - even though it would be frowned on by purists.

A little downhearted, but not giving up.

Hello there ! Not had a military vehicle yet, but always fancied one. Mainly had Classic Cars and Volkswagen Beetles.

Based in North East England, and know several members of the North East Military Vehicle Club - and support DLI Museum.

Thanks for the input, - looks like the usual things then. A good one would be worth buying. I am arranging to visit the prospective sale, and coaxed my local VW fitter (with the promise of crossing his palms with silver) to have a good look. Cheers
