  1. Hi,

Just found some nice pictures of Royal Enfield WW1 motorcycles.

    The story is :

In previous years, Royal Enfield had fitted a Maxim machinegun to one of its sidecar combos for publicity purposes. In a memorable snafu, the machinegun (which was not operational) was seized by customs on its way to a show in Ireland early in 1914, where there were restrictions on the importations of guns due to the political unrests there. At the outbreak of the war the machinegun-enabled combo was rushed to the Ministry of Munitions and an order for 6hp's with strengthened chassis was received. Vickers guns were mounted on the sidecar chassis and they could be swivelled in any direction, forward, backward, sideways, even used as anti-aircraft gun. A padded seat and backrest were provided for the machinegun operator. Another model was fitted with a stretcher to carry wounded.

The info and pictures came from this website :

    Kind regards,

  2. As everything is so perfectly screwed together, wouldn't it be possible to first assembly and paint it on the floor and then break it up into 4 or 5 major pieces which are then lifted and assembled on the chassis.

The screw holes can be touched up afterwards ....

    Just my 2 cents ...

BTW i have followed this thread when you were at page 50, but i have really enjoyed every further progress !

    Kind regards,

    Glenn

  3. Hi all,

i was wondering if someone could help me ....

I'm in the middle of purchasing a bike from someone in the UK, more specific in Middlesbrough, Cleveland postal code TS3 6NP. But i'm a little bit concerned about his honesty ..... :undecided:

Is there someone on this forum who lives in this neighborhood and is willing to go to this guy and pick up the bike ? Of course i'll wire the money to this person beforehand if it's the real deal .... please PM me or through an email glenn.verhoeve-AT-scarlet.be

    Thanks !

  4. Hi guys,

I would like to mark up my GPA in British livery.

During the war there were several hundred GPA's delivered to the British forces, but I can not figure out in which divisions they were used.

According to another GPA-owner they were used by the 79th Armoured

Division, but I wonder if that was the only division.

Since I live near Ghent, I was thinking of marking it as a vehicle of the 7th Armoured Division (Desert Rats) because they liberated Ghent.

Can anyone help me? I would also like to know to which divisions they were classified? HQ ?

Also what should i paint on the windshield?

    Sincerely,

    Glenn Verhoeve
