  3. Hi everyone..Here are 3 pictures Of my constructor i have not seen her for a number of years due to other projects / issues ,so this is what she looks like now and I hope to to bring her home in the near future. Earlier in the thread my friend John did mention that I owned the constructor he was right I have owned it for many years now approximate 14. She was in excellent condition but the last few years in storage have taken its toll on her being outside.

  4. hi everybody

i have managed to get a little further with the meadows pump system, but i have another problem. The alternator drive coupling , which is about 5 inches long ,vulcanized rubber at both ends , one of the ends which is vulcanized to the shaft has perished . I was just wondering does anyone know where i could get a replacement ? it was on the meadows petrol engine before i did the conversion to diesel. i dont think im able to take a picture, but when the rain stops i will try and see if i can get to it and take a pic.

    any help/suggestions gratefully recieved

    thanks shawn

  5. Hi Nickthought you might like that , I know a little more about your scammell your conversion was gone before mine I remember it now. Spoke to the bloke who did it a couple of times if I remember right it then went into museum he got something else not sure what, he had problems with his pomp. I think that my friend John helped him with the pump problem. Speak to you soons shawn

  6. Angelsea eh? i'm only in porthmadog you could pop round and have a chat if you want.

thank you for letting me come and see your scammell today. I will check my fuel pump when I get home, it was extremely interesting seeing the difference between your pump and my pump. It seems like a better idea the system which is on your Scammell I wish mine was just as easy. Anyway we will get to the bottom of this I'm sure thank you for your help today. Once again thanks very much shawn.

  8. hi everyone

im in angelsey and just had a message where the scammell on angelsey may be, but we dont know exactley where it is ???

" There is an RAF Constructor at a farm on the southeast corner of Anglessey - farmer's name is Jones but I cannot remember the name of the farm, it is right on the beach only 1/2 mile or so from the s.e. coastal point. It is the ex TRS unit from Porth, steel body cut at back to accomodate ex Explorer wooden lockers."

can anyone help any further ? we are leaving on saturday this week and hope to try and find it , we drove around angelsey last friday looking for the bloody thing !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    cheers shawn

  9. Hi Shawn, just realised who you are - you own the 30 ton Constructor and have a commercial repair facility at Macclesfield. We did some sort of deal on ebay if I remember correctly???

Some years ago Alan Walker and I spent a day at the Griffin Trust getting the petrol engine in the Explorer running; it was actually siezed when we got there but responded to some TLC, a generous shot of diesel down each bore, a new float and a set of plugs.

    Mike

    hi mike

yes i remember some kind of deal on ebay, was it a manual that you copied ?

my original question still stands !!!! have you got a S26 ??

does my memeory serve me right have you got/had a crusader ?

did you connect me via the griffin trust scammell.( the bloody gear box nearly killed me on that, the bearings were siezed)then put a meadows into it , but due to illness i havnt played for a number of years .Im just trying to sort myself out to start playing again .

    cheers shawn

  10. have owned my explorer for about a year now i dont have much on its history or who put the meadows in the engines recently had new head gaskets fited . my engine has scammell meadows on the rocker covers so i belive it has allways bin in some typ of watford product

more on off my explorer here http://www.hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?t=10485

where about are u from shawn ?

    nick

    hi Nick

I have been and looked at the link you sent me.....all 40 pages took me hours & hours lol

I found the pump pages interesting and the difference to my engine .i can see all the conversion differences like air filters mine are connected to the

air boxes, also the water pump modification, it is a petrol water pump they have used, that allows the fan to sit in the correct place.

I did my conversion several years ago about 7/8 so the mrs tells me.

i have had explorer's for the last 20 years but not sure how long ive had this one, will check when im home , i bought this one from the griffin trust, via a friend ....im in macclesfield in cheshire by the way.

    cheers shawn

  11. hi

we are on holiday in angelsey at the moment but from what i can remember the throttle goes direct to the accelarator .

i have just been through a lot of pages from nick, he sent me a link to his blog, on one of the pages there is a picture of a 4 cylinder meadows , that is a similar pump to mine except mine is a 6 cylinder pump.

dont know if that helps any.

I will post some pics when i get home .

    cheers shawn

  12. hi everyone

sorry for the confusion, she originally had a petrol engine in her, but i found a diesel static engine and put it into her.

nick......had your explorer a static engine in it, if so who did the conversion ? how long have you owned her for?

mike. .... i have tried two different places close to me hoping to get the pump sorted but to no avail , as people never get back to me, they dont seem to know about these old engines....any suggestions im in the manchester area.....do you own the S26 illustrated as your header ? my next toy, would love one !!!!!

and i will post some pictures when we get back home, as we are away on holiday at the moment ?

there is a picture of one of my trucks on the constructor gallery......its the dixons blue one, everyone seems to be wondering about.

    thanks guys

  13. hi everyone

hope ive posted in the right section, by posting here

i have a scammell explorer and many moons ago i put a meadows type 6pc 630 engine in, the problem was it was a static engine that ran a water pump. It will go up to a certain amount of rev's and thats her lot, i have been told i need a two speed pump. I not sure but have been told that a similar pump is in a foden , but i dont know how true it is !!! it is a CAV pump inline .

i need some info or any help would be gratefully recieved to try and get this girl going.

    thanks in anticipation
