  1. Evening gents,

Trying to find out generally what series of reg number LETTERS were allocated to Sankey half ton trailers, both Mk1 & 2.

    Ideally a Mk1 between say 1954 & 1965.......& Mk2 of about 1968 to 1976 vintage.

I've trawled through some 'Sankey related' posts here already, hoping to drop on the answer & found one that mentions 'ET' & 'ER' on Sankey trailers .... but I thought ET & ER were allocated to Stalwarts :nut:

    Can anyone confirm please ?

    Cheers.

Mine is a 1953 one reg is 19BL29, one of the batch from 13BL70 to 74BL27 Sankey, FV.2301A, 2 wheel Cargo Trailer, 10 cwt 1953 6/V/7318 2805-1790 it's individual number is FV11772 and was tropicalised and has the magic T plate pity the tropicalisation did not prevent rust but it will be restored over this winter

  2. Tubs off, chassis not to bad only a couple of holes in one section,

I am afraid the tub is beyond repair (or at least my welding skills) so will be looking for a replacement in the mean time I will put a wooden box on so I can at least use the trailer once the chassis has been stripped, repaired and painted this year and have time to make sure the "new" tub is up to scratch once purchased

The T is for tropicalisation, protecting the wood work from termites etc. pity it does not protect against rust

  3. I have just recieved my "new" sankey trailer, sadly in need of major restoration of the body (tub), chassis not to bad, it does have the smaller eye for which I have modern pin but will be looking for a classic towing pin later, the chassis number is S1929 and vehicle number 19BL29, there is a small brass plate with assembly number FV 11772 will post pictures if it ever stops raining.

  4. Try Owl Cottage, Royal Oak Lane, Aubourn, Lincoln, LN5 9DT, tel 01552 789139, they have a nice double en suite with a seperate entrance from the rest of the house, the local pub does excellent evening meals (booking advised), we stayed there in November for the Vintage Tractor Rally at Newark for three nights and recomend them

  5. Hi Lee and welcome to the forum,

Of course there are lots of Geordies on this forum, we even have the odd sand dancer and makem but don't worry we brainwash them with good ale still brewed on Tyneside, I may live in Northumberland but was born the right side of the river Tyne (North Shields)

    Cheers

  6. Hi Dave

Welcome to the forum, I had my South African Land Rover LWB Series 3 at the BVAC show last year, really enjoyed the day out plenty of vehicles to see and lots of interest in mine as well,

I am sure you will get a military vehicle soon

  7. Hi and welcome, I know what you mean about bike v car so now I stick with four wheels as "leathers" are nearly more expensive than Land Rovers and I don't like "kissing" cars + BMW drivers get out of the way when your in a Land Rover, hope you enjoy your bike once the tube comes and your back on the road

  8. Hello from the north East of England,

I own an ex South African LWB Land Rover softtop on a Q plate as it was assembled in SA from a CKD kit sometime between 1971 & 1979 ( Land Rover SA figures ) the SA Goverment do not have records for that period.

It came out of service in 1986 and was driven back to the UK & registered on 01/02/1987, it has twin underslung petrol tanks fed from the front wing tops as well as the normal rear one, a fresh water tank behind the passenger seat built into the box section before the rear wheel arch and a one piece front bench seat. I am still trying to find its true year of manufacture and if all or any of these features where original or later additions
