  1. Hello, Another Flea question, sorry. I have some Castrol D140 oil. This is used in the welbike clutch. It's very thick, almost like syrup. I was planning to mix this with grease to use in the Flea's gearbox. Whilst using 10/40w or the D140 in the clutch. Have I got it right ? What is the best stuff to use in each please ? Thanks all.
  2. Hello, yes that's true. A rusty old welbike found in a garage is one of those items most people wouldn't think is worth anything and ends up at the tip. Even today I think it might happen. Although with eBay and people assuming old = money its not so likely. I suppose a plus point for eBay. Thanks, Kings
  3. Hello Ron, yes I'll get him to register on here so he can post pics etc. He's absolutely chuffed to bits about it !! He doesn't earn much so this is a stretch for him, but better this than beer etc etc
  4. Hello, it measures out at 7/32 bsw, but that's an odd size. You can buy taps n dies but no screws. I've never got my head around the whitworth sizes so I'm wondering if it's 3/16bsw - I'll check tomorrow as I have some bsw taps. Hitchcocks - it's not available. The annoying thing is I had one, yes got to check my spare cranks. Took a pic of the 'Airborne collection' today. Thanks
  5. Hello all, can someone please tell me the thread size for the screw that holds the points cam to the crank please. The one I thought it was is a bit tight in there and I don't want to force it. Thanks all, Kings
  6. Hello Ron, yes I'll get him to register on here so he can post pics etc. He's absolutely chuffed to bits about it !! He doesn't earn much so this is a stretch for him, but better this than beer etc etc
  7. Hello all, yes it's the 7k one. The seller might have the missing parts yet, so fingers crossed. Yes, I'm aware of welbike UK, there's also Parkwood Mtrs - anyone know about them ??? I asked in case anyone had original, used parts. Seems a shame to put new parts on it. Incidentally, my welbike is No. 331 which is about 316 in at the beginning of the first batch, and Alfie's is about 330 from the end of the first batch.
  8. Hello, my young son (19) has just purchased an original Mk1 1942 Welbike. Owned by a soldier since his demob !!! Now passed away. The seller might yet find the missing bits, but does anyone have the following parts just in case : Forks, front wheel, petrol tanks. Thanks in advance, Kingsley
  9. Hello, thanks for the help . I've decided to just put the census number on the tank for now. Still more work to do but things are progressing. Thanks again.
  10. Ok, thanks. Just thought I'd check.
  11. Hello all, another question regarding my Flea. How many turns do the clutch screws go in by. If I tighten the screws fully in the springs are fully compressed. If the screws are backed out everything works (engine not running yet), but other the spring tension, and a bit of loctite, there is nothing stopping the screws undoing. Most bikes like this have lock wire, split pins, lock tabs etc etc Thanks all
  12. Hello, now I understand, thanks. I saw one somewhere with the red/white and the Pegasus and I thought it looked nice, and thought it was correct. Other than the C number do you think there would be any other markings for a vehicle with the Oxf and Bucks, or working alongside them. Many thanks for the help and advise.
  13. Denis Edwards was with the Oxf and Bucks light Infantry during the war. He later transfered to the Parachute regiment (his book is The Devil's own luck). I knew the chap as he helped in my Dad's museum. It'd be nice to do the Flea as if it were with him somehow.
  14. Hello Ron, Thanks for the pics and help. I know what you're saying less is more, but I do like the sort of personalised/individual look. What I'm thinking is a '6' (red square, white 6) on the front left side of the tank. This is as Denis Edwards was with the 6th Airborne Div later in the war. what do you think about that ? Thanks again, Kingsley Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
  15. Hello Ron, thanks for the reply. Is the AoS the 110 on the left side of the tank. It can be seen in the Flea being picked up ? Someone I knew (passed away now) was in the Oxf and Bucks light Infantry and took part in the glider landings on 6th June, and operation Varsity later in ww2. Considering my flea was delivered to the WD on 1st June I'd like to do it as if it was somehow connected to his unit. What AoS number and colour would have been applied. Thanks for your help, Kingsley
  16. Hello all, I hope you're all ok in this difficult time. I've dug the Flea from the depths of the garage and it's resto continues. The bike was delivered to WD Cambridge on 1st June 44. I have purchased the senticils for the tank and was going to apply the C number. Now, here's the dilemma(s) : 1. I'm tempted to have it signwritten on as I like that hand painted look rather than stencil. 2. I'd also like to apply the division number and the Pegasus insignia to each side of the tank. At 1944 I don't think it would have these, but I like them ! What are people's thoughts about this? Does anyone have some pictures of original Flea tanks showing these markings. Thanks all, Kingsley
  17. Ok then, cloth covered it is then. Thank you for your reply.
  18. Hello, Would the four control cables on the WD/RE have been cloth covered or would normal (modern) pvc covered ones be suitable. I like the look of the cloth ones (same as my BSA Folding bicycle). Thanks
  19. Hello all, Sorry for my ignorance on this subject, so bear with me please. I have recently puchased a 1944 WD/RE (Flying Flea). It currently has a civvy headlamp switch and the plug cap is missing. At work we have a 3D printer. Does anyone have the drawings that can be put into the computer that will print the parts (if you understand!!!!). Thanks all for your help, Kings.
  20. Hello, the woodruff key and has 'wobbled' in its slot on in the crank thus opening it out. I'm sure I can weld it up and machine a new slot 180 Deg. Thanks
  21. Hello, again, many thanks for the help. I'm in Newbury Berkshire. I've asked the seller for the RE engine. Now here's a million dollar Q ... How much for an original Flea? Do you have one for sale. I'm on 07774526605. Thank you again.
  22. Hello Steve, many thanks for the info. The frame number is 7140 does that tell you anything? The flywheel has chewed the woodruff key and has damaged the keyway slot in the crank. I'm not sure of the engine number yet. Yes I knew about the seat mounts and they are indeed straight ones.
  23. Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I've just purchased a 1942 Royal Enfield Flying Flea. The bike currently has a DKW engine fitted but the engine is included in the sale. The original engine has a damaged crankshaft. This I may be able to repair, but just in case doesanyone have a crankshaft to sell please. Thanks in advance, Kingsley
