49brill Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Hi everyone, I have joined the forum in the desperate hope of finding spares. I have owned an Ex-Greyhound bus for the past 20yrs. It Is a 1949 ACF Brill with a Hall Scott 790 cu.in. petrol engine. I believe this is similar to an engine fitted to an American amphibian vehicle. I am trying to find a clutch slave Cly. or one similar to it. Its a Bendix 1-1/4" dia. with a 2-3/4" stroke if anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful. Also interested to know if any of you have come across the Hall Scott engine. It is a straight six with single overhead cam and a cross flow head, it 's mechanically governed at 2500rpm. I love the sound of it(when I can afford to hear it:-() There was a bigger version than mine produced around the end of the war which was factory LPG it would be great to find a conversion kit, trouble is I think it ran at about 8:1 instead of my 5:1 Regards Steve Quote

Steve, as you will be aware, this component was probably fitted to a number of different vehicles..........so, do you have a part number ? Who have you tried in this country or the US ? Do you need the complete SC or just the seals ? If you can't find the one you are looking for could another SC be grafted in position to replace it ? I think, I once heard of a service where they rebored obsolete cylinders and fitted new seals (or did I dream that ?) And, finally, can we pleeeeeeese see a pix of your bus. Cheers. I wonder if it's worth asking this bloke, who seems to deal in classic parts, if he has one like yours, or could get one. Nope sorry 6x6 it would not have been this one. The guy I got it from had converted it to a motor home around '68 but he got it from a church who had used it for about 6 years. If anyone remembers the film Bus Stop with Marylin Monroe it is the same model as the bus in that film. Quote

49brill Posted July 2, 2011 Author Posted July 2, 2011 Thanks for all the intrest Guys. Sorry to only post when I'm on the bum! You really helped last time. I got the new slave cyl. Works great now. But I just wondered if anyone has any knowledge of Garrison power steering rams? They were often fitted to a range of trucks as after market accesories I believe. I think the company is even still going but they just will not respond to my emails. I have a feeling the spacers are set up wrong in my steering control rod valve. Any advice greatly appreciated.
