Enigma Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I love to see those gravity defying caps they wear! The civilian doesn't seem to be very interested though. Quote

mcspool Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 A soldier standing by a dummy anti-tank gun, set up to draw "invader" fire during wargames. Re-enactment avant la lettre! - Hanno Quote
Snapper Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Your picture of the Valentine tank comes from Exercise Bumper, the huge series of anti-invasion exercises held in the second half of 1941. These covered Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bucks, Berks and so on. The forces involved were large - using visiting forces from the Dominions and exiled allies. It would make a fantastic photo project of the 'then and now' sort. M Quote
abn deuce Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 (edited) Of course the date is wrong should be 1941 ? Rick W Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Aha! Just caught this thread! Excercise bumper, took my place round my neck of the woods, I have been trying to find more pics of it for ages, I dont suppose it gives any more details of the locations? Quote

Rick W Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Here the 2 pics I had, if anyone can resize and post them I would be grateful. From the High Street in Winslow, Buckinghamshire. Note the painted cross on the front of the "captured tank". If I remember correctly there were 3 Excercise Bumpers. If anyone can tell me how to post a pdf file I will post up the report from the War Office, makes very interesting reading. Quote
