simon stolly Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 This may affect some of us that transport vehicles with modern trucks: New legislation for trucks, wide angle and kerb mirrors New legislation mirrors EU truck.. 21 Days to go Here we go again...Are you legal..? The new EU directive to retrofit all vehicles first registered after January 1 2000. The regulation stipulates that all vehicles over 3.5 tons need to be fitted with new wide angle (class IV) and kerb mirrors (class V), that meet with the new legislation, by the 31 march 2009, this is in addition to the front view mirror introduced in January 2007. The new directive improves the driver’s visibility of pedestrians or cyclists when the vehicle is making left turn (right hand drive vehicles) or right turn (left hand drive vehicles). March 31 is closer than you think, so planned annual service times are the perfect time to have the mirrors fitted, the longer you leave it, the more demand will be as march 2009 approaches. HGV Direct's easy guide to EU 2003/97 specifications Class IV (4) - Wide angle mirror. Class V (5) - Kerb View Mirror usually above the passenger door. Class VI (6) - Front mounted wide View Mirror. Acceptable radius is 300mm of your mirror glass - we have an easy to use measuring tool available if you require - this will give you compliant field of view from your seat. Your vehicle may be upto specification but you need to check your glass radius. For some applications we can offer just a replacement glass. This was taken from HGV Direct Quote
Lord Burley Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Funny thing is.If you are a foreign truck owner/operator entering the country, and dont have them fitted. Then you can have them fitted for free at the port of entry.Only in this country. Quote
Tony B Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I have seen the front mirrors on various trucks latley. Good idea. As far as I know the legislation does not apply to 'fare stage' ie 'normal' buses. Unfortunatley there seems to be an idea amongst some cyclist that they own the road. (And this is the HMVF bike freack saying it!!) Quote
john fox Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Okay good idea and all that but would I be right in assuming this applies to our vehicles as well? So if we register armour for the first time (after having completed a project vehicle) will it have to be compliant - not quite sure how to fit a front mirror on a Ferret  Quote
