motherbird Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Hi I'm a newbie to this site. I wonder if anyone can tell me what sort of car this might be. It is being driven by my father on an aerodrome probably in Holland or Germany in 1945. He "liberated" an SS staff car I wonder if this is it. Thanks Motherbird Quote
Snapper Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 (edited) Welcome to the Friendly Forum. What a great snap you have there! Someone will be along to suggest a type soon...but having browsed a bit I think it is a Wanderer of some sort. I will be corrected. MB Edited February 19, 2009 by Snapper Quote
Tony B Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Welcome, and importantly, did he bring it home? Quote
Degsy Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 I think you're right Mark but as to which model:confused: Quote
6 X 6 Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Welcome to the Forum Motherbird. There's nothing we like more than a quiz! Have a look at Wanderer W52 on the following link. http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.autogallery.org.ru/k/w/w11gc.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.autogallery.org.ru/pwand.htm&usg=__3dW9u40aqNS8hAzqicVjXYiPoVE=&h=384&w=800&sz=88&hl=en&start=45&sig2=rOVxfTbLuMlkQDh6nyXY7g&tbnid=tg2ZNWpdepo-_M:&tbnh=69&tbnw=143&ei=OtOdSY_rMIGy0AWK75TzBQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3DWanderer%2B%2BAuto%26start%3D42%26gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3D21%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN Quote
Papav66 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Certainly looks similar to the W52 except for the bumper, split windscreen and quarterlights on the doors. Quote
6 X 6 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Certainly looks similar to the W52 except for the bumper, split windscreen and quarterlights on the doors. From what can seen, the rear end may slightly differer from the car shown on the link as well. Could this be a more basic military version of the W52 that Motherbird's dad is driving or simply cosmetic changes made to a design over it's production run ? Quote
motherbird Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Hi and thanks the welcome and for all the ideas. There are definite differences from the one in my photo. As 6x6 suggests it may be a military version. I know that just after the war was over all the pilots were most upset when all 'liberated' cars were confiscated. So unfortunately it is not hiding in a shed awaiting repairs! Motherbird Quote
Stigg Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 It might be an Auto union/Audi, The company selling vehicles from a Belgium collection has a similar vehicle for sale on flea bay. Quote
