ArtistsRifles Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Feeling quite pee'd right now - collected little Maud from the Fort at 09:00 (should have been 08:00 but the other parties got mislaid....) - she started first turn of the key and everything seemed OK. We got her out of the gates in one shot and headed off to Chadwell St Mary to put some fuel in, just in case. All the way there she ran like a dream. Filled up and pulled out then noticed the air gauge was on zero - no wipers or horn and minimal brakes. Pulled over beside the A13 for 10 to 15 minutes as I suspected it was ice in the braking system and then restarted to see if the problem had cleared - it hadn't so we took a VERY slow drive back to the Fort again. Feeling very upset/uptight right now 'cos I'd been looking forwards to this for weeks and now can't get there as there is not enough fuel in the car to reach Woolwich and back so I had to come home instead on account having put the fuel into the Stalwart!!   Quote
David Ives Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 i will be going up tommorow for the day hopefully in the 109 but if not then in the car with the rugrats Quote

ArtistsRifles Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 What I need to do first is get some Methanol added to the braking system as per the EMERS to act as an anti-icing agent. Then maybe if still needed I can try and find a "proper engineer"" who's insane enough to be prepared to look at a Stalwarts braking system - you've seen what the hull is like to work inside............ :shake: Got any suggestions or recommendations for such a person???? Tony B Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 hopefully there Sunday, but will be bike in volvo agin. By the time i get a vehicle out it'll be to late. Quote
84KB11 Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Neil, I have some Methanol that you can have is you want. I do not know how I can get it to you though, it's fairly nasty stuff (toxic, flammable), so posting it is out of the question. Quote
ArtistsRifles Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Whereabouts are you sir?? If not so far from East London then collection is possibly an option! Quote
Marmite!! Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Whereabouts are you sir?? If not so far from East London then collection is possibly an option! You can get it on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1-litre-Methanol-For-Biodiesel-Titration_W0QQitemZ140301080183QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_3?hash=item140301080183&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1688%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 Quote

(Don't suppose you've found a "proper engineer" prepared to work on Stalwarts on there too have you??) :cool2: :cool2: Quote
84KB11 Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Neil, I'm near Gloucester (other side of the country!). Amazed you can buy it on EBay, also amazed that their listing policy allows the selling of "dangerous chemicals"..... You can also get it from some model shops, as it is a component of some model aeroplane fuels. If you have trouble finding some, I can always make some enquiries as to which local couriers will carry it. Quote
john fox Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Amazed you can buy it on EBay, also amazed that their listing policy allows the selling of "dangerous chemicals" their policy says: A few hazardous materials may lawfully be transported under certain conditions if they are properly packaged and labelled. Such items may be listed on eBay, provided that the listing contains a clear notice of the hazardous nature of the material his listing is therefore OK - reference to specialist transport company and clearly labelled as hazardous Quote
