Poptopshed
I may be stupid but... When counting splines on a drive shaft or gear do you count the tooth or the gap between each tooth?
0 AlienFTM
I may be stupid, but ... ... surely the answer will be the same whichever you count?

0 Jessie The Jeep
I counted 347 before I realised I was doing something wrong!!
0 AlienFTM
Dunno? Every up you count will be followed by a down. Every down you count will be followed by an up. Otherwise it isn't radially symmetrical and won't work very well as a spline. Like somebody else hinted at, mark your starting point and stop when it comes round again or you'll be suspicious when you reach 347. ;o)
