Oil for Sankey trailer

Guest Anonymous

Question

Guest Anonymous

I maybe stupid but...

Recently brough a sankey trailer, in a bit of a state as it has not been used in years but seems to be basically sound.

Every time I stop I get a boot up the bum from the trailer, the over run brakes seem to be ok, so I can only assume I have run out of oil in my buffer.

What oil / grease should I use to top it up & how do I know when it is full.

I've got an injection grease gun so thats a good start.

Not sure what you mean about a buffer behind. The standard Sankey 3/4 ton had two types of override brake, mechanical or hydraulic. They both have quite long draught eye shafts. The mechanical version has a pair of flanges mating the shaft with the spring and the hydraulic version has an exposed shaft from the tow eye to the hydraulic cylinder & there are two long spacer bolts seperating the two units.

Which do you have?

Sorry

but is it titled I maybe stupid, but...

Directly behind the eyelet is a cylinder (damper) I can push it in,

I assume it is some form off buffer off the back as you say it has an

arrangement that pushes on the handbreak mechanism if it goes

to far. I assume this is the over run brakes.

Hope this helps. :)
