Morning Gents,

A friend of mine is trying to trace members of his family who served during WW1, he has the names and service numbers of them so is there a website or someone he can contact to gain the information he is looking for?

Can anyone help?

Right off to Remembrance Parade now

Many thanks

Ive done this recently, although you can use the National Archives, their sister site Ancestry.co.uk is a lot easier to navigate and it finds the documents you need without wallowing around in the NA website. They have a 2 week free trial running at the moment as well.

If he served in a county regiment, you might want to try the archives office at County Hall. I found War Diaries for the Durham Light Infantry at Durham Records Office whilst researching my family tree. Come to think of it, they may have been exclusively Second World War records, but you might be lucky and find Great War stuff too at your local records office.
