antarmike Posted September 20, 2008 Author Share Posted September 20, 2008 (edited) Jean Lennox Bird was an ATA pilot during the war and was the first woman to win RAF Wings. She was killed 29th April 1957, in the takeoff crash of her Miles Aerovan at Ringway Airport, Manchester. After becoming a pilot for the RAF in 1952, Pilot Officer Bird accumulated over 3,100 hr in more than 90 different aircraft types.
