martylee Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I was looking thru some old photos, when I found a few from the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid on the Hudson river. I've been there a couple of times and really like it there. Lots of nice plane. Marty Quote
martylee Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 (edited) Hard to take good photos, but a nice collection of planes. A must do, if visiting NYC. There's also the USS Edson and a submarine which name I cannot recall at the moment. Marty Edited September 1, 2008 by martylee Quote
Bodge Deep Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Wow thats quite a collection of hardware! Didn't know that the SR71 was carrierborne... thats either a very fast ship or one hell of an arrester hook!! *ahem* Quote
Lord Burley Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Been there a few times. It really puts it in to perspective how big those American carriers are to those piddly commando carriers we have. And the Intrepid is small in comparrison to the Reagan,Nimitz,Eisenhower class carrier.B.t.w is the F16 still hanging from the cafeteria ceiling over the tables??. Lord Burley Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Best time to go there is when Fleet Week is being held.A lot of Navy stuff head in to port, including some stuff from the Royal Navy. Most memorable moment for me was being up in the observation floor of one of the twin towers and watching as two F14,s flew below us up the Hudson.Strange looking down on two jets flying by,rather than looking up. Joris Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Great pics, I was in New York last year but then it was in restoration Quote
martylee Posted September 5, 2008 Author Posted September 5, 2008 I visited the USS Lexington in Corpus Christie as well, but can't findany phos from there. The same thing with the lone star flight museum in Galveston. I don't know what happened to those photos. I think I have some of the USS Texas somewhere. Marty Quote
