utt61 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Thanks Clive! Looking forward to the photos, I love these trucks. I remember towards the end of production in Watford going on a tour of the production facilities. Very impressive indeed. Shame that the tank transporter wasn't selected in the end. Quote
protruck Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 (edited) It was all to do with the price. and not the quality. the Goverment went for the cheaper option and not the quality option. just take how long the mod had the commander. I don't think the Osh will last that long. A.L.E seem to like the old girl and wish they could get there hands on some more. But alas there was only the one 8x8 built. but there was 9 6x6 versions built for Oman. utt61 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Clive, Awesome, many thanks! Please feel free to post any more you may have! I really think that the 8x8 Unipower is one of the best looking military trucks of recent times. The rear 3/4 view of the TBT with the bridge on test is especially impressive. Quote
protruck Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Hi mate. As i say I have thousands of them. in the factory, on test, and on MOD trials. plus many many more of all the unipower vehicles that we built and watford and at east molsey. When I have a lot of time i will up load all of them on to my website. Glad you liked them. Clive ..................................... protruckservices.com Quote
gritineye Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Great pix Clive, thanks. The Commander being Scammell and British was a source of pride and a tough act to follow, so it must be so hard being involved in producing such a great truck like that only to see the short sighted bean counters reject it after it performed so well. Such a missed opportunity! Quote
protruck Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Hi gritineye. Had the pleasure of building both the Commanders and The Unipower HET. For me the decision to not buy British was made by some porcupine in a suit, that didn't know on end of a truck from the other. No 10 saying we need to save money. My real opinion is not printable on this forum. Clive ............................... protruckservices.com Quote

Edd Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Does anyone have the measurements to hand for a Unipower Forester? In particular how tall they are. Thanks Ed Quote
Edd Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Finally, I am pleased to say that my new toy has arrived. Some of you may recognise her from earlier on in this thread. She is the ex-RAF, then ex-BAA Unipower Forester ballast tractor. Any info on her history would be very nice. So far we have photos of her on the Unipower stand at the Earls Court Motor Show. Although we do not know the year of manufacture yet. Closest we have got so far is 1950 although not road registered until 1962. The aim is to return her to RAF colours and I will start a restoration thread soon. Cheers Ed Quote
gritineye Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 That looks pretty good to me Edd, although the front hitch is a bit scary! Looking forward to your resto thread...:thumbsup: Quote
