Of DVLA and VOSA

Following the bombshell that the internal roads on SPTA are now public highways I've just spoken to the DVLA and VOSA regarding registering the OT.

Good news is that VOSA confirm that it is MOT exempt and that DVLA see no problems in registering it - neither referred to an SVA test at all.

Bad news is that DVLA reckon 7 to 10 days to process the application so - pending a miracle - it looks like I'm gonna miss the Plains Weekend for the second year running.

Needless to say I am upset beyond measure at this!!  :banghead:

Hopefully - he says looking sick as a dog - I'll collect the paperwork up Friday morning then once hand over is complete I can head to the nearest DVLA office to home (Sidcup in Kent apparently) and kick the proceedings off. At which point I'll be begging and pleading like its going out of fashion to get it sorted ASAP!!

Who knows - miracles might happen..... Not going to hold my breath though.....

Your in luck mate!! Sidcup are very reasonable. How are you getting here? I'll send directions it is near Sidcup station. Don't forget to download MOT exemptiuon certificate from DVLA tax website. As soon as you have number etc, I can tell you where a shop is about ten minutes away who can make up the plates.

Be coming down via car Tony - hopefully direct from Russian Military clutching the paperwork in my sticky hands.. Got the insurance cert here already. Do I need the V112G as part of the registration prcess??

Any idea how quick are Sidcup at processing the applications and issueing the numbers??

Right Neil. Up the A20 till you get to the Crittall's Corner, junction is signed Sidcup A222. Take second exit at roundabout at top towards Sidcup. You will see Queen Mary's hospital on you right. Follow about 1/2 mile, straight across 1 st lights, Morrison's on you right. you will see a second set of lights from there. Go straight across. Police station across road on left. The tax office is about two hundred yards down hill on right a 1960's building with a concrete canopy out front, second floor . Plenty of parking in side roads to right. They are helpful, give them a ring. If they can do while you wait they will.

Neil,

It doesn't take that long to register a vehicle. Find your local office and take EVERYTHING down there, proof of age, insurance certs etc. Wait in the (long) line and fill out the form while there. You will need dimensions etc. You should be able to hand over the cash, and the docs, and go back the next day and collect the form which enables you to buy some plates. I've done this 4 or 5 times. They have only asked to inspect the Wolf, which is arranged for next week, if you are lucky they'll even give you a tax disc while you wait.

Thanks both - this is making me feel a lot better!!! :)

Like I say - got the insurance cover note here, currently made out under the chassis number of the OT and, having checked the PC I have the V112G downloaded already, just need to print it off. So I'll get every scrap of paperwork that Richard has for the vehicle and bring it down with me.

Are they open Sat mornings - or will it be a case of Monday at the earliest if I don't get back in time Friday??

Hmmm - good point David. Only 30 miutes away.....

Anyone know if the Peterborough office is as "user froiendly" as the Sidcup one is reported to be???

Neil,

Last year I registered an armoured vehicle and the Maidstone office said it would have to be checked by an inspector, despite having a verification letter, photos, etc. This took about 4 days wait, until he was in my area, it only amounts to him physically checking engine and vehicle serials against the application form, then I had to wait until he had reported back to the office and for them to send a letter with the reg number and authorisation to obtain number plates. With the 50:50 chance of having to have it inspected, it would be less trouble to go to a DVLA office nearest to where the vehicle is located. Also, if this is the office that the dealer uses, they may be familiar with the vehicles, so better all round.

I just registered my Sherman and despite them saying it needed an inspection and that this could take 3 to 4 weeks, I received my tax disc on the 8th of April and the V5 on the 11th. All this from my visit to Ipswich LRO on the 4th..... 2 working days! Excellent service I have to admit.

Which ever office you end up at , make sure you take a numbered ticket to get your turn ( if all offices use the same system ): I sat in the Ipswich office for some time waiting my turn before I noticed all the bods getting their little cheese counter numbers & finding myself further and further down the queue !
