Rick W Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Some recently found pics of US vehicles in Normandy GMC Tipper?? Unloading at Mulberry harbour. Interesting series of 2 photos. Quote
N.O.S. Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Yes, Rick, they are gmc tippers. But even better an Osgood 600 is loading them  Is there any chance you could email me a high quality copy of this pic? :flower: Quote
N.O.S. Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Thanks Rick. Lawson - if you fancy some original - looking dents in your buck using real concrete rubble, we must get your tipper and the Osgood together when it's up and running  Quote
No Signals Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Anybody else think that the pic of the tippers links up to the left of the scenes down the street? In the pic of the Chaplains jeep there is a GI behind the GMC. You can just see what appears to be the same figure sliced off to the extreme left of the tippers shot. The ruined building also appears to be the same 'pattern'. Agree? Quote

Rick W Posted January 11, 2008 Author Posted January 11, 2008 You are quite right. They were a set of 3 pics and I didnt even notice that, well spotted. Quote
N.O.S. Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Yes, Rick, they are gmc tippers. Well, No, Rick - I think only one of them (at the back) might be, the one in the foreground looks more like a Diamond T 4 ton, judging by the style of the front wings and body sitting slightly higher. Quote
Rick W Posted January 11, 2008 Author Posted January 11, 2008 Those 3 came from a set of four I found the last one is this. Hotel de Ville Montebourg. The other photos bear the description of being in Avranches, or La Manche. I dont know what that translates as, or where it is know. Be interesting to know. Quote
abn deuce Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 the more heavy duty dump body <large Gussets> with it setting higher and the one piece all metal headache rack mark it a Diamond T still a fine looking truck , they had twice the capacity of the GMC's Quote

GoranWC51 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Hi Rick, Could you send me a high res copy of the picture with the Chaplains Jeep? I'm in the process of collecting Chaplains items. including pictures, for a Chaplains impression. goran_noren@yahoo.com As always Goran Noren 1944 Dodge WC51 Ch.no: 81741448 To be marked as an ambulance of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force Italy 1944-45 Quote
GoranWC51 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Hi Guys (and Gals for that matter ) I've just put a bid to buy the Chaplains Jeep picture on Ebay. Auction ends in 6 days. I'll be scanning the picture in high res and fix it in Photoshop and send out to whoever wants it. Enclosing a reworked copy of the small pic (25 Kb), enlarged 200% with Genuine Fractals v.5.0 (a plug-in for Photshop) As always, Goran N Quote
N.O.S. Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Goran - That rework of the chaplain jeep pic is excellent. If it does not involve too much work, is there any chance you could do the same with the first tipper picture? Thanks, Cheeky Tony Quote
GoranWC51 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Hi Tony, Here's my shot at trying to improve the Tipper pic. It's very difficult to improve the pic as this picture was more compressed, and also underexposed, than the Chaplains Jeep one. I'd need the original picture to really make it good. As always. Goran N Quote
N.O.S. Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Thank you for doing that, Goran - much appreciated. Dodges forever! Tony Quote
abn deuce Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Certainly the dump truck in the back ground of the photo is a GMC, but still agree with the closer one being a Diamond T. Quote
GoranWC51 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I agree with the closer one probably being a Diamond T Tipper. The shape of the right front fender (Wing to some of you ) gives it away. It is difficult to say because of the poor quality picture. As always, Goran N Quote
Degsy Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Yes, definitely a Diamond T both the front wing and the type of headboard confirm it. Quote
N.O.S. Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 we might have to go and see if we can find this when we are in Normandy in a couple of months time! Here is another view of Montebourg - it saw heavy fighting, and apparently was eventually rebuilt exactly as it was before the destruction. Quote
No Signals Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Its good to see that on the Chaplains jeep there appears to be a Thompson in a scabbard(?) just in case the crucifix fails :-D :-D Quote
GoranWC51 Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I saw the firearm too. A Thompson SMG on the drivers side. The GI's driving Chaplain's were regular soldiers picked by the Chaplain, if I'm not mistaken? Still looks odd with a Chaplain's Jeep with a gun attached  Enclosing a picture of a Dodge WC51/52 in the winter of 1945, probably sometime around the Battle of The Bulge. abn deuce Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 M8 Elements of the 25th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron of the 4th US Armored Division crosses Bréhal on July 31, 1944. A woman tightens a bottle with a GI. In the foreground a truck Opel Blitz carrying a number plate SS was neutralized Quote
