Royal42 Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 (edited) Hello all, I have been sent the photograph below with a query about the yellow outer ring on the roundel. Were RAF roundels with yellow rings applied to all RAF vehicles, including conversions, such as the OXA model below? If so, when were they applied and when did the vehicles revert back to red/white/blue roundels? Were those roundels specific to any special theatre of operations, such as the BEF in 1940, or were they service/worldwide? I would be grateful for any information on this. Cheers, Mike Edited December 10, 2024 by Royal42 Quote

0 rupert condick Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 hi, re Lorry Bedford 30CWT 4x2 A/TK the RAF roundel was a recognition marking use in the M.E. on the insistence of the RAF that British Vehicles should have Air recognition markings. 1939-12th Jan.1942, none. 13th Jan.1942 - 8th June 1942, St. Andrew's cross on Black. 9th June 1942 - 30th Sept. 1944 RAF roundel with yellow outline. 1st Oct. 1944 - onwards Five-pointed white star surrounded by an 8in white circle these would be changed when the vehicle can in for a routine repaint, the supply of paint being an issue. 1 Quote
