Mark Ellis Posted November 14 Posted November 14 Hi all, The Gazette is the formal paper for advertising legal and national notices and warrants. I've recently been browsing Australia's Commonwealth Gazette, on Trove, which has loads of military Tenders and Awarded contracts notifications. I've been looking at the UK's Gazette, and whilst there's a few tenders advertised for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, there's absolutely no items for the War Department / MOD. So I wonder if anybody knows where the WD used to post such notices? Many thanks for any help. Quote
fv1609 Posted November 15 Posted November 15 Mark prior to October 1959 you need to cast your net towards the Ministry of Supply for such contracts, although I have no idea where else they would be published. 1 Quote

Or the Commissary-General's office, Clive. Just a shame that they didn't list the actual items 2 Quote
fv1609 Posted November 15 Posted November 15 Yes the further back you go the more complicated it gets. There might be something in the National Archives WO395 files that includes War Office: Directorate of Army Contracts and predecessors: Annual Reports 1878-1938 https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C14599 1 Quote

An obvious index would help 1 Quote
