berna2vm
Hi All. I am interested in buying a 1952 Austin K9. It was originally registered in 1979 and given a V registration. How hard is it to re register on a correctly dated plate ?
radiomike7
1952 registrations are not dated. DVLA are unlikely to change the registration but you should be able to find a suitable dateless reg for sale and swap it to the K9. At one time the registration of a previously unregistered vehicle was based on the year in which it was registered not manufactured. Around 1980 the system changed and dateless registrations were provided as with my 1952 Scammell Explorer which became GSU 510.

Unless the letter sequence was never used, all registration numbers are approximately dateable. Unfortunately the letter sequence dating in the link (other sites may have the end date) only list the start date for most of them. https://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/registrations/reg-letters.htm
berna2vm
I know they aren't dated as such but you don't really want a V plate on a vehicle like this !!!!

GSU 510 and 510 GSU would have been available from July 1932 to 1963 when the year letter was added. Edited August 20 by radiomike7

If the list is complete [and there seems no visible reason to think it is not], then the implication is that neither the GSUnnn nor any 'reversed' series [i.e. nnnXXX] was ever issued by the original authority, making them pre-1963 but otherwise dateless and available for issue later by the DVLA. The list shows SUnnnn was in use to 8/1961, succeeded by ASUnnn and BSUnnn. ASUnnnA was also not used and ASUnnnB started 6/1964. Not a lot of motor vehicles were registered in Kincardineshire it seems.
