I think it might be the reason that CAT and Detroit Diesel, amongst others, recommended monogrades, because multigrades produced ash. May be wrong, but will have to search through my "technical library" :-D Richard I'm pretty sure your tech stuff wiil prove your memory to be right as I'm sure I've read about the ash residue at some time.
