Bob Grundy
I have not seen one of these in military service with the BEF. The photo shows it on a French railway wagon with the Bren group posing with the gun and Motley mount. On the reverse of the photo is the number CO 2236. Anyone know anything about these small Commer lorries ?
Richard Farrant
Bob, It looks like a Commer N1, built between about 1933 and 1938, I would suggest it to be an impressed lorry and not of military issue, like many other oddities seen in photos at that time in France. Bob Grundy
Richard I had a N1 as you can see. When Q25 is typed in it comes up as a Q25, strange...
Richard Farrant
Hi Bob, As far as I am aware, the Q25 was a normal control cab (ie with bonnet) and built from 1940. The photo below of a N1 is from an old book called Preserved Lorries and the cab seems to look very similar to the truck on the wagon. Rootes75
It would most likely be an N Model, one of the smaller ones in the range too like an N1 by the looks of it. They weren't built for the military so I would agree with Richard that its an impressed vehicle. The Q Range was introduced in 1939 and they did produce them as normal and forward control so I suppose it could be a Q25 forward control. You would need to see the front to be sure.
