Quadman42
Hi All, would anyone have any images of Martians that were assigned to 103 regt RA AD TA or 16 regt AD RA. I am trying to find the correct markings for my artillery tractor
MatchFuzee
Not a specific regiment but does this help? https://ra39-45.co.uk/formations-and-markings/vehicle-markings
Quadman42
Hi Match, the Martians were after 1953 . I will check through this and see if anything is relevant many thanks
10FM68
Steve, Here are a couple of photos of Martians which I took when I was a boy - so about 1968-70, something like that. They are of two separate TA units: the first is an AD regiment - with Bofors 40/70 and the other was a regiment equipped with 5.5" howitzers. They aren't great as it was a very simple camera and an even simpler person behind it!
Quadman42
Hi 10FM68, I don’t suppose you have records of what regt those markings represent. The second one appears to be a crown over a sword but I may be mistaken…..my wife tells me I often am
Quadman42
My Martian has the storage conversion of the rhs spare wheel space to take a spare Bofors barrel for it is likely to be similar to the first image thanks again for your help steve
wally dugan
The sword and crown is LONDON DISTRICT
Quadman42
Thanks Wally, that has killed that Avenue off lol. Mine was based up in Lancashire so I am led to believe thanks again steve
07BE16
The first vehicle belongs to 2nd AGRA = Army Group Royal Artillery See Wiki link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2nd_Army_Group_Royal_Artillery If Wiki is correct it might be the answer you are looking for. 10FM68
No, it isn't 2 AGRA. That formation had gone by then, disbanded finally in 1962. I did know which regiment it was, but I can't remember. Wally is correct with the other Formation sign - it is London District, but, again I can't remember which regiment - though an RA specialist could work it out
REME 245
According to the Norman Lichfield Book prior to 1946 103 Regiment were the Suffolk Yeomanry. The Regiment then ceased to exist until 1967 when it was reformed as 103rd (Lancashire A.V.) LAD Regiment whatever that means. By this time insignia was probably limited. MatchFuzee
103rd (Lancashire Artillery Volunteers) Regiment Royal Artillery is a current army unit. https://www.army.mod.uk/who-we-are/corps-regiments-and-units/royal-artillery/103-lancashire-artillery-volunteers-regiment-royal-artillery/ https://www.nwrfca.org.uk/tag/103-regiment-royal-artillery/ Even have a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/103Regt/ Perhaps old photos can be found from one of the above. Quadman42
Thanks 10FM, these are superb. My Martian served with 103 regt RA Ta and 16 regt AD so highly relevant. It also has the bofors spare barrel storage so once I identify the regt from your pictures I am getting somewhere
