General Mayhem Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Did any of you see the dedication of the new war memorial in today's newspapers? Very moving and poignant images. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=487278&in_page_id=1766&in_a_source=&ito=1490 For those of you who know of a relative who died serving our country there is an online memorial where you can leave your own tribute. http://www.gatesofremembrance.com/main/homepage/index.php A time to reflect, I will leave you to your thoughts. Tony B Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 The frightening thought is the space for 16,000 more names. Any one know the significance of 1968? Quote

Jack Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 i thought that this was an exceptional monument - real elegance and long overdue, I had never heard of it until yesterday. Am I missing something? I hope every single politician walks the walls of the place and I hope they sit down and reflect as to why we are still doing this. I am appalled at the space 'left' for others sons, brothers, husbands and friends - surely this is a contradiction. We should be planning for peace, not forecasting for future conflicts. Jack. Quote

Tony B Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 The only year we haven't lost a serviceman in....? Yep, to be exact in action, frightening isn't it. A friend of mine who is a Doctor tells a story of a young soldier who came to him with his arm in plaster. My friend thought he wanted to be signed off again. Instead the young soldier spent his time pleading to be found fit so he could get back to his mates in Bosnia. This is the quality of people our politicians play games with. Quote
