SirLanceUK
I am sure there are all sorts of tips for this, but I don't know them and I have tried to find a post on here about it, which failed, did find an interesting post on standard tools required for looking after a CVRT. There are a few I haven't got but I am sure when I come across those jobs I will read the books, and make as needed. Back to the point of the post :- on the inside of the door (mainly) and ceiling I have noticed the "paint has cracked" I called a local upholsterer who's advice was to cover it up with a cloth stuck on over the top, I did however notice on a video someone in the background was "treating" the backdoor and later on in the video, on a further walk around, the inside of the backdoor looked faultless, which leads me to ask how was it done? I noticed that some of the paint on the ceiling came off in flakes when I mounted an AAFL and LSVM over the backdoor. All help, as normal, gratefully received Lance Edited February 12, 2021 by SirLanceUK Wanted to add a picture
sirhc
The back door was sometimes painted green to match the outside, I would clean it up and paint it nato green.

When you say clean up, you mean sand off the flaking paint back to the a stable layer/ the foam. I am worried that after 40 years the foam will just crumble. Wondered if paint remover would be better/ gentler
sirhc
You could try pressure washing it to get rid of anything loose and then paint over the top?

Unless someone comes up with a different idea I will give it a go on the backdoor, once the weather is no longer "cold", the inside and ceiling will be a little more problematic using that method. Messier4715
Mate how the hell, I still haven’t made my mind up if I want a kettle in the office yet, joke aside has it got the rubber strap? And the clasping hook? And bit of a warning for future. In support troop I was big guy so I got parked at the door and thus brew female dog, as a soldier I expected hard ships etc, however BVs are boiling vessels not a kettle it will boil over if the power cable is left in also the lid is snug but pressure builds and the two container clasps are shite so the over the top thick strap will prevent it bouncing around the hull but more important lessons scolding if you had it on before you moved out these things keep heat a LONG time. The splutter at pressure also that tap will eventally leak but it’s fixable, trust 10 years of these things burning me in a turret or in a hull. BVs are boiling vessels for cooking and second hot drinks if you hear it hiss disconnect the stupidly big power cable don’t open but if you need to, leave the rubber over strap on and realise the smaller catches one at a time realease any pressure let it sit for a minute and enjoy, oh yer don’t run it empy or put a tin of beans in it napame. These are all the advice and memory i have mellow dramatic as it sounds have fun don’t get burned 🥵 😛. SirLanceUK
Thank you for your kind advice. I do have the rubber strap too. I am very fortunate I have made some great people who keep their eyes open and of course here and Ebay. When I was in REME we had generators so kettles where in order along with fridges and sandwich makers. Nothing like creature comforts Lance

SirLanceUK
Just in case anyone is following this I thought I would update the post. Tried scraping the paint off, just went through the covering were the covering was "tired". So then used a mild paint remover, this removed the first 2 or 3 layers but again not a lot of good were the covering was already distressed. So plan c - Got a new seal, new canvas covering, strong tape and new foam (for the edges) and a big tub of contact adhesive. As I am working outside once the weather turns back I will be getting on with it...
