welbike
Dick Petman RIP, but he only ever had the tanks made, nothing else. Welbike UK is the best option, or I might have a rusted original, that, I can give to you, but it's not usable. Cheers, Lex
Ron
OK Lex but I bought the pump off him at W&P years ago the same time as the tanks and you were there! Ron
welbike
Ah, that must have been over 20 years ago, unfortunately, we didn't know as much, as we do now!! I had pumps reproduced 10 years ago, but the price was very high, so when WB UK started making them, they were cheaper, with the bits all CNCed, so bought them there, but still 100 quid, but they look and work very good. Ron
OK Lex I'll accept the free one as a token gesture of remorse for your misdemeanor. Ron
flyingfleasteve
So with a little bit of persistence I have now managed to satisfactory remedy the over size light switch hole within the instrument panel. I used the bezel from an old Miller pork pie style tail lamp and adjusted it to suit my requirements. Not perfect but more than acceptable.

flyingfleasteve
Thank you gents! I have gone to put a top coat of paint over it but unfortunately my paint has gone off. 😬 This was my own special blend so it’s going to be some trial an error making up an acceptable batch just to paint the last few things 🙈
Ron
What do you mean Steve? "Gone off" I've got tins of paint over 20 years old from previous resprays that I've kept and use for emergency touch up spraying.......Like what needs doing to my MT210.😣Ron
welbike
Yes, I was wondering the same? the other day I used a 5 year old spraycan, I had filled with my own paint, 2K, with very little hardener in it, and after some persuasion it still worked enough, to finish a part I was spraying! had to use a small burner to get some life into the can, but it did work. flyingfleasteve
My paint has become lumpy and almost looks like it has split. I have tried stirring it thinning it but to know avail. I have filtered the spray gun but it’s still through small lumps/imperfections onto the parts being sprayed. I am using a Zinfos paint (Manor Systems?) which it better know as industrial container paint etc…..it give a great finish but this last little bit does not want to play. It’s such a shame is I have just three bits left to paint 🙈
Chris Hall
I’ve had this with a modern oil (I don’t think it was oil, I think it was a modern alternative) based paint. The stuff just separated and would not mix again whatever I tried. It was like a thick gloup sitting in thinners, mixing it just made the lumpy bits smaller before it settled back into a few gloupy bits again. flyingfleasteve
Frustratingly apart from the paint situation I only have 3/4 of a DC40 inspection lamp with just the knob missing. I assume knobs only very rarely come up for sale if any, so it’s either bite the bullet and by another original, but they seem to be a small fortune, or temporarily fit a repro one 😬
welbike
You'll be lucky to find a complete one! but just buy a repro light, and transfer the knob over to the old lamp, should work, they are not bad at all. (except for the Phillips screw) Lex First picture, from the Lucas catalog, second picture a repro. flyingfleasteve
Thanks Lex. Mine is brass, it came fitted with the tank from the States. the repro one doesn’t look bad at all
welbike
Ah, I must be going blind!! sorry! then it's more difficult, but you could have one turned from solid brass I guess? here's mine, also brass. Lex
Chris Hall
There’s some really good repros of many things out there that get let down by the wrong screw! It surely can’t be that expensive to get the correct screw after making the effort to get the rest correct.

flyingfleasteve
Its surprising what you can find in an old petrol tank…..🙈 Walnut shells and a nest 😬 The tank in now much cleaner internally now. Nearly time for paint!
Chris Hall
Mice? I had a full walnut in the glovebox of my Halftrack. When I brushed out the muck, crap, moss and nesting materials I used a pan to collect and through under a hedge. That walnut has now sprouted, it must have been in the Halftrack for decades.
flyingfleasteve
Another productive day on the G3. The rear tail light has now been resprayed, twin pin converted and fitted. I have managed to mix a second batch of paint which I am very happy with so the tank has been painted, splash guard on and tank fitted! The saddle nose seems awfully tight on the tank but it’s all fitted now! Now starting to turn my attention to the instruments and final bits of wiring!
