welbike
Great send off for an ex DR, Bob Conway, met him in 2017, and talked to him about his experiences, very impressive, he liked Matchlesses!! https://www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/news/18649466.hearse-carrying-normandy-veteran-bob-conway-passed-trowbridge-town-centre-making-way-west-wiltshire-crematorium-semington/ https://www.trowbridge.gov.uk/2020/07/22/tributes-paid-to-d-day-veteran/ I see some familiar faces there on the bikes! johnwardle
I knew Bob for about 10 years and attended his funeral as a representative of the MVT. Hello was a regular VIP visitor to Lacock at War along with fellow Normandy veteran Gordon Smith. Bob once showed me his photo album of photos of him with the Studebaker US6 artic that he drove in Normandy and also a lot of photos of him with Volkswagen Beetles in Germany! One time at a 1940s dance at Melksham, the burlesque dancer was doing the tassel twirl on stage when the tassels flew off in opposite directions, when Bob's wife Gwen was told what had happened she said "it's a good job that I'm blind or I might have been offended" Bob's passing is a sad loss but at 94 and a half (the half was very important according to Gwen) he had a long and interesting life.
welbike
John, thanks for attending, I only met Bob twice or so, and only heard this morning of his passing. But he made a lasting impression on me, especially last time when I stayed in their house, and if you didn't know Gwen was blind, you would not notice! I heard she's doing ok.
