Hi @bobboat

Nice model, and still seems well cared for.

Do you know why your father hose this particular boat to build? I'm assuming it wasn't a kit, so he must have known it at some stage?

Best Regards,

Adrian

I'm afraid the original decision is lost in time. I was younger than 10 when he built it, although I was a keen "apprentice" helping him. But he was not a Naval person in any way. He lived in London but was called up to the RAF as an engineer and spent a while building airfields in Northampton.

I believe he and a co worker each built the boat from plans. I found the plans from a company specialising in model boat plans about 10 years ago and was considering building a second when I stumbled upon this thread reference purely by chance.

I had no background on the history so am very interested in any and all info.

I still have the boat and it is in the condition as the picture and fully fitted out with modern R/cC

Ok, here as far as I know all the pictures taken at that spot, probably not by the same photographer, but it must have been a nice "sightseeing" spot! in one of the pictures there is a lorry, maybe to transport the bikes to nearby Adinkerke, where there was a scrapyard, where a lot of material was left, even after the war, there were stories!

Cheers,

Lex

I googled Rue de Lille, there's a couple, so don't think it's the one in Paris, so that leaves Armentieres and Villeneuve D'Asq, on the west and east of Lille, the last one seems more likely, but will need time to find more, an then it could be half a mile away from that street.....

Hi, Keith,

I'm pretty sure it's the centre of Valenciennes.

The buildings in the background of the third photo, with lots of chimneys on the roof appear to the Caserne Vincent, still there today but without chimneys. This is at one end of Rue de Lille.

https://www.va-infos.fr/2019/10/29/retour-sur-lhistoire-de-la-caserne-vincent-a-valenciennes/

The photo was taken from a little further back from here.

I guess the others will be in the same area, but I've no time to look at the moment.

Best Regards,

Adrian

THE SECRET HISTORY OF WORLD WAR 2 . Dunkirk.

I think it was hard to know, what to keep out of the programme. I should have sent a photo of British troops Drinking water out of a bowl and you can see one knocked over. If you have seen the programme you know the story of the water bowl.
The programme was just about some of the secrets .
Photos from my collection of POWs at Le Bourg. Photos from my collection.
