Trailer RAF Berlin ?

Recommended Posts

Sorry, I'm not here every day - only sporadically.

I can send you my book with pleasure. Unfortunately, the price including postage to the UK is now 19 euros, as cheap EU postage is no longer valid. Not only that, how do you now deal with customs duties on mail or merchandise shipments?
Unfortunately, I am not up to date. The last book to the UK went through Ebay and Ebay took customs duties off the buyer. Very strange.
Maybe more munga drivers are interested? then surely it will be cheaper in one shipment?

I really don't have the time to translate the book. As many MUNGA drivers are still on the road in Italy, I partially translated my first MUNGA book from 2017 about the flatbed truck into Italian. It is just too much work and unfortunately I am not perfect in your language anymore.

Often photos don't give the right colour, it was all still analogue back then.  Of course there is a colour difference between the British in Berlin and Hanover and the military police and the RAF. The marking was also different back then....Allied GB in Berlin = ?? "X "G ??  X = Berlin
Interestingly, new cars for the German police in Berlin  were delivered from the factory in RAL 6014 and then repainted directly in Berlin, as no "bluish" off-road cars for the police were accepted by the Russians. Later, the correct colour was painted at the factory and the new cars were imported "by air" !!!!  via Hanover and Hamburg. Cold War...

Back to your question... From january 1958 the delivery to the RAF started in RAL 6014, at first only to Lower Saxony (Hanover). A part of this first delivery was then transported to Berlin. The quantity is not exactly defined.
In May 1962, 6 MUNGA in "RAL 5011" (blue-black) were delivered to Berlin-Gatow, the frame was still in RAL 6014. However, at first an intermediate storage and further equipment took place at the RAF in Brüggen!!!
These MUNGA were assigned to the RAF Police, Provost and security service,  for escorting VIP persons during the Grand Tour etc.  Noticeable are many chromed attachments, such as bumper, lamps etc.  Her Majesty, the Queen's car also had many chrome parts.
Unfortunately, I was never able to find out whether there were any modified paint jobs on site.

May it help.
