Not meaning to be thick but how does it work?

I assume it's just a coverall like the modern flight suits it appears to have buttons for a warm liner but, it dosen't look like it would be "bouyant.

Perhaps is it  full of "kapoc" (a cotton wool like water resistant plant fibre found in old life preservers)

The suit contains a heavy insulation of kapok to provide buoyancy in case of a water alight.
