Radek
Are these numbers painted under bonet, census numbers? Are they war or post war?
fv1609
This is a recurring query with no definitive conclusions yet.
Richard Farrant
Clive, I understood them as postwar era markings and were thought to be receipt numbers at Vehicle Storage Depots. I seem to recollect reading on a website about them once. I have seen them on Champs, Austin K9 etc.
fv1609
Richard I am sure you are right that they are vehicle depot markings of some sort, but I don''t think they can be Receipt Voucher Numbers. I have records of 3,700 Humbers & none of RV Nos resemble these bonnet markings. What we need are Regulations/Manuals of Army Ordnance Services - Vehicle Depots of the 1950s, I have quite a number of these but they are 60s-70s which shed no light on these particular markings. fv1609
I forgot I have a series of 11 RAOS pamphlets that cover BOD/ABOD between 1949-51. As might be expected it is full of requirements for paperwork but nothing that would tie in with these vehicle markings.
wally dugan
this one of those questions that has been asked for years the nearest I have ever got was that certain letter are associated to AAWs like most vehicles worked on by HENLEY carry the WNR sequence and it is most likely connected to a paper trail for accounting purposes

I think Henlys rebuilt Champs at one stage.
07BE16
If the vehicle was rebuilt by Henley's in Weston Super Mare you will have B269 stamped on the data plate as the rebuild location.
wally dugan
RICHARD HENLEY had a number of workshops doing rebuild and overhauls for the ministry l have a list some were of there locations among other vehicles they did this work on included a number of HUMBER BOXES this practise of stenciling seems to have faded out in the late sixties early seventies
