Apologies for lack of updates on here, a few pics should help. All brakes been off cleaned and back on, radiator been re cored and tank fittings altered to suit.

Progress 👍

Still moving in the right direction, power steering pump has had new lines fitted, wheels should be back from blasters this week and hopefully fuel tank back on this weekend.

Thanks to @Samro for the time taken in saving many parts from another truck including the good tank I now have.

Getting there !

Those 16.00s look good on the front, did you manage to find a complete set of the AEC wheels?

Cheers Mike, I’m still looking for 2 to finish the set off, the tyre was mounted temporarily to make sure we had clearance at the front.

Cheers

Sounds nice running , but I think you will find it incredibly slow , the B81  would allow 40/45mph cruise before running into rev limiter that was at 3750 IIRC  . Some time after I sold mine a new owner converted it to diesel , not sure if Cummins or leyland , but it resulted in it being scrapped :(  . Mine was a Gun tractor I converted to wrecker , (pics on forum)  . I think the wrecker version were also lower geared than the gun tractor (not sure on that) .

Well today I took my Martian out for a couple of trips round the block to see how things go.

Will do 25 mph but sits nicely at 20 which to be honest is fast enough for what it is. Steering is light and brakes are surprisingly  good. Getting there now.

A good day 😁

Well done, that sounds really good and the larger tyres look the part.

FYI all four Martian variants had the same gearing of 14.9:1 in top compared with 6.795:1 for the diesel AEC Militant recovery.

A few more update pictures. I took the Martian to the Malpas Yesteryear Rally last weekend, quite a lot of interest.

Still lots to do !

Cheers Chris 👍

Great pics! looks like a great day. Love the E-type in the second last pic - trying to figure out the military connection for it and finally concluded it comes from Her Majesty's Secret Service, 007 division. :)

And yes I know he never drove a Jag - like that at least :)

I guess in the last picture it is between two Scammels, a Pioneer and a Commander.

I make that 0/3, Scammells, an Exploder (access hatch nearer rear than on Pioneer) and not a Commander (wrong wheel arches)😉

Last pic it’s between a Explorer and a Crusader 👍

I could not decide if the on on the right of the picture had a bonnet, I was wrong on both counts. Still two Scammells, Not what I used to say when I worked on a Michelloti cabed Routman 8 legger or a Himalayan 6 legged dump truck.
