martynsmith
Hi chaps Any idea when the early BCF fire extinguisher on the left hull side (I.E. on this Blues and Royals Scorpion from 1973) was replaced by the Swordsman type and was the early one plumbed into the engine compartment also? Thanks in advance Smudge
Diana and Jackie
BCF is now illegal (except in aircraft and other permitted equipment). It was plumbed in to the engine compartment. The best alternative is Foam, however some will argue not, though dry powder makes an awful mess. Starfire
My Saracen was disposed of by the MOD in Hong Kong in 1993, and it was still fitted with BCF extinguishers, so probably some time after that. Cheers, Terry
Caddy
please be aware that powder extinguishers will eat all metal that it touches. So if you are lucky enough to put the fire out whatever caught fire will be junk. foam does the same, but much slower and you can wash it off. CO2 is great but has a tendency to kill people as well as fires.
