Malc-Edwards Posted September 19, 2015 Author Posted September 19, 2015 <Update 19 Sept 2015> Injectors serviced and fuel pump flushed, started okay, but found rear head gasket blowing, so now I plan to remove the cab, and then start on the engine my initial thought is to remove the cylinder heads, sump and take out the pistons Hone the bores, check the piston ring or replace, check the big-end bearings, re-seat the valves and test bench the fuel injection pump. Reassemble and try... I will need as a minimum a engine gasket set, so if anyone can let me know where I can find engine spare parts (model 0853) then please drop me the contact details Br Malcolm Quote
Ed Batchelor Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 There was a chap re-making gasket sets, will see if I can find contact details it was around £100 for a top end set. Unfortunately engine spares are very thin on the ground for 7.7 engines, pistons, bottom end shells etc from what I can gather are pretty hard to get hold of. I would advise removing the two inspection plates on the n/s of the engine block and scraping all the accumulated cud out, this will help with cooling. They are known for blowing headgaskets, especially if allowed to labour with a heavy load, did mine last year. Cab wise, no two are exactly the same apparently they were built by several different coach builders (AEC only built the lorry less cab), interchangability of wood may not be straight forward between different cabs. Good luck with the project, mine is still in its working clothes but I did get talked into taking it to a show last weekend! Quote
