The clothing has been coated with something, hence why the shirt is darker on the outside.
Nope Richard this was just normal issue clothing illustrating the difficulties he had encountered in two extremes of clothing.

He was the boiler man running the mobile laundry ........ way back from the frontline!
Richard there were a couple of other laundry orientated replies but they have gone. Nope he's not a boiler/laundry man. He would be very much a front line participant.

Ah a clue here, not seen by the enemy and still on the front line, second photo nails it, he is a sniper.

Good idea but he's not a sniper Richard. So in summary we have British trials of something in Australia (=hot weather) with a fighting man on the front lines who can't be seen by the enemy & is not a sniper.

are these dehydration trails to moniter the effects of heat and fluid loss

A good suggestion Wally but the sweaty clothes were more of an incidental finding to the main trials. If I mention the name of the organisation it will become more obvious.

is this to do with the handling of petroleum products or latrines the rubber gloves ?
Yes one would certainly want rubber gloves for handling POLs or poo Wally but its not related to either of those necessary but hazardous activities.

Is the man a member of the SAS ?
Don't think so Richard. But look at your last post yesterday, you were within a hair's breadth of being correct. But if I gave it to you then it would be picked up on as your terminology was not 100% correct for this trial :-D
