0 Gordon_M
Not sure. I'm aware of the 750Kg limit for an unbraked trailer, and I suspect this might be relevant. Of most cars would exceed this but a T may well be on the right side of it.
0 Chrisg
I think it would classified as a trailer and if over 750kg the brakes need to work
0 N.O.S.
I think it would classified as a trailer and if over 750kg the brakes need to work And I think the most recent complication came about when it was specified that now ALL the brakes on the towed vehicle should work. Hence complex systems to adapt the overrun brake movement on tow hitches to actuate the footbrake pedal. Previously people had got away with a link to the handbrake cable for example (which works only the rear brakes).
0 Gordon_M
Thinking about it, I can't see a better way of doing this than just strapping the poor thing to an Ifor Williams - job done
0 Nick Johns
Previously people had got away with a link to the handbrake cable for example (which works only the rear brakes). Hmm the model T only has rear brakes, and a transmission brake!
0 Kloud Nine
Thanks for the replies folks, My T roadster is a vintage hotrod and therefore a bitsa. Has 40s Pilot running gear, propshaft (not torque tube) and a Bedford CF 5 speed box. Would I have the same problem? I think it's near 2 tonnes with the flathead V8 so well overweight anyway. Cheers, C.

0 Brooky
Put it on a suitable braked trailer
0 N.O.S.
Ah - but is the K9 permitted by its taxation and testing status to tow a loaded trailer?
0 utt61
You may find this of interest. http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_200824.pdf
0 commander
Surely the new law only applies to trailers that are manufactured from the date the law changed Commander
0 Sean N
Ah - but is the K9 permitted by its taxation and testing status to tow a loaded trailer? Not if you're on the pre-1960 test exemption - "...used unladen and not drawing a laden trailer" A-bar car would probably count as an unladen trailer, unless you had stuff in it. The other thing no-one's mentioned is that to work this needs a vehicle that will turn corners naturally while being towed on an A frame - 'castoring along'. Not all vehicles will.
