PDonovan Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Superb Restorations of quite rare vehicles Something went wrong... Quote
N.O.S. Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Very nice. For the record it's a 606 unloading an Autocar U-7144T. There was a Federal 94x43 at the show however. Quote

I was thinking that myself. Federal 604 is rare and I have never seen one. Is there any at all in the U.K.? Is there a reason that so few seem to survive; is it just that they were useable post war and got used to death or did any that came here move on to the continent? Quote
N.O.S. Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 There seem to be several 604s in preservation, or at least waiting to be restored, in Europe or USA. But I only know of two 606 tractors though - the one which visited W&P and one in Switzerland fully restored in Swiss Army grey. Quote
zemsi Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 ... one in Switzerland fully restored in Swiss Army grey. You probably mean this truck. That's a REO and not a Federal. The color is called "schattenschwarz" (shadow black). Greetings Chris Quote
N.O.S. Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 It's a Federal in all but badge :-D Yes Chris, that's the one and what lovely condition. Someone posted a link to a short video of it on here a few years ago. Is it part of the official collection or privately owned? And is it for sale? Quote
zemsi Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Ok, I wasn't aware of that. So was it actually a Federal design, just made/badged by REO (let's like the Ford/Willys Jeep)? She's in a private collection, just some few km's as the crow flies from my place (my "state" has a lot of MV collectors). As far as I'm aware she's not for sale. BTW, the correct trailer she had in the Swiss Army Service is still there too, but unrestored. She was the only one here, together with another big Mack with a similar aeroplane fuel trailer... Greetings Chris Quote
N.O.S. Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 As far as I know Chris (but I'm not 100% sure) the Federal and the Reo were pretty much identical except for badge - can anyone confirm? There was another of the C2 trio - Biederman - which had a few more differences mainly panel / cab detailing. A guy in France has I think a Biederman tractor (as yet unrestored) with two spare front panels with Reo and Federal badges so he can choose which it will be for the day! I have seen it but was in such a state of shock having seen his collection that i didn't take it all on board.... Quote
Jack Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 And is it for sale? No it isn't. Just sticking up for Mrs N.O.S. here! Quote
zemsi Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 I hope it's not too much off-topic. Found a good set of pics abouth the Biederman. Twinbeech has on 2 pages a lot of information abouth the Federal 606. Page 1 Page 2 Survivors Greetings Chris Quote

Enigma Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 That's a good looking truck! The 1/2 ton Dodge I once had was ex-Swiss and had the same colour. Looks a lot like WW2 German Panzer Grey. Quote
