Heating in canvas tents.

Rick W

Question

Thinking of getting a canvas tent at some point. If we do then the family will have to be accommodated in it. I can imagine they would be a little on the chilly side. What do people do to heat their tents safely without any risk of CO poisoning etc?

I bought a kerosene heater and I've used that for several years. Burns about a gallon (4 liters) of kerosene during a full night. On the plus side is the possibility to use the top of the heater as a cooker. The heater automatically shuts off if you knock it over by accident. I payed about 70€ for mine:

You CAN paint it Olive Drab if you want to add a bit of WW2 feel to it...

Pot belly stove works very well. Even a few small bits of wood throws out a lot of heat.

Also use tilly/coleman lamps, they warm a tent up really quick.

Have one of these too.

Plenty of choice, plus a nice warm down filled sleeping bag. Toasty:D
