rustexpert
We always said it was a Thornycroft cab; I don't know if that was correct but it had an A.E.C. 7.7 engine and went like a dream like they usually do.
RattlesnakeBob
What a gorgeous and really seriously useful bit of kit . I had a Coles Crane in my yard for many years ..I think it was an 'Argus' ?....but anyways..it was supposed to be a 6 ton lift and would easily lift 8 or 9 tonne and the crane on the back of this truck looks exactly the same.... Zero-Five-Two
This one turned up at the AEC show in may. Speaking to one of the guys with it, he assured me it was based on the Mk1 Militant, but I couldn't see a lot in common with my Mk 1. Back axles on it do look a fair bit like the ones under the tractor parts.

Jack
I have been back to the inlaws house so i returned to see her. intetestingly she hasnt got a wooden cab.... it is all metal. she hes no rocker cover and bits an pieces missing. aparently she was driven there where she sits 20 years ago so yee she was a runner. if i could get a rig big enough i could pull her straght forwards and drag her between some trees. now to get the farmer whos field i would have to use on my side! the scrap yard propriator seemed to like the idea of her being rescued. my plan would be to flat bed her in metal frame with wooden bed and bolt a hyab to her and put her to work. what do you think folks? http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/7516/xhot.jpg OK OK - help me out here - WHAT ON EARTH are we looking at> I just see tractor cabs and tractor roll bars :computerrage:

Bob Grundy
It is the remains of a Coles crane, They were fitted with AEC automotive parts, the crane is not built on a Militant.

Desert Rat
Ok, let's zip up the old anorack and see what's there...Don't know what the blue engine is, almost definately not Ford - like to know It's an early David Brown 990 with the sandwich front axle. You can tell from the main casting, the timing cover and the head. Someone has obviously painted it blue.
Hair Bear
Thanks, now you've said that I see traces of 'hunting pink' paint. It was the five stud hub that threw me.:red: Sorry, off topic...
